I bought a 32 inch Dynex a couple days ago and it looks great for the most part. It doesn't so well in dark areas though, in COD4 when I go into dark rooms there is some ugly ghosting and blur. I've tried messing with the brightness but it doesn't really do much rather than mess the other colors up.

That's the problem with Dynex, because it's a cheaper TV. You could try darkening the brightness, but as you have experienced your other colors will get darker as well. If it's on the Vivid setting, take it off that and put it on Standard. If that doesn't work I don't know, man. There are professional calibrations you can get done to it, but they can be expensive, and the money you would spend on that would probably be almost as much as the TV cost.

It seems in the general opinion that 60hz refresh rate TV's in general give you the blur, the cheapest I can find a 120hz is at $450 which is a 200 dollar jump :(

me too, and no ghosting. that's because my LG, for example, has 4ms response time. i can notice ghosting (wich makes my head hurt after playing a while) on my older LCD monitor, wich has 20ms response time. it's the time that it takes from the pixels to go from black to white, and then black again. when it's slow, it causes blurring/ghosting.

Buy a plasma and you will not have ghosting as refresh rates are near instantaneous. 120/240 Hz processing was added to LCD to help counter the lag effect with processing.

LG actually uses quality parts. Brands like Dynex are old/low quality parts.

even if the LCD TV would have 1000Hz refresh rate, it would blur if it has slow response time. it also doesn't affect the lag caused by processing at all, wich is completely another thing not related to image quality, but to the delay of input when gaming.

LCD panel should have 1,67ms response time to perfectly keep up with every frame @ 120Hz refresh rate.

I'm finding that the Dynex I have has a 8.5 ms response time, so not really a big jump there.

doesn't sound very accurate if you really have ghosting... would it be possible to try that Samsung at your home?

Well looking at best buy's website, all the big brand name 32 inch LCD's cost the same. Sony has a couple at 400, Insignia, Samsung, LG ... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?id=pcat17080&type=page&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1~~q70726f63657373696e6774696d653a3e313930302d30312d3031~~cabcat0100000%23%230%23%23wv~~cabcat0101000%23%230%23%236e~~nf330%7C%7C33302671756f743b202d2033392671756f743b&list=y&nrp=15&sc=TVVideoSP&sp=-bestsellingsort+skuid&usc=abcat0100000 Out of all of those, the only one I found with "game mode" was Samsung's.

I'd go for the Insignia plasma instead. Our local Mountain Mikes pizza has it and it looks very, very good considering the price. My sister also picked one up for her apartment and it too looks fantastic. Still hasn't had a problem with it. I can't link it to best buy because GS doesn't like best buy links, but just do a quick search on BB's website and you should find it.

Did you look at that insignia plasma yet? Or is it too large? Check out the LG 32LD400. 32" LCD 1080p. Same price as the 720p version on best buy right now.

Everything over 5ms will have noticeable ghosting effect....5ms response time is the "normal" standard when it comes to gaming...

I think so. It seems everyone over reacts to response time. 8ms isn't bad at all.

Yes. But you could just tweek the pic or just sit a little farther back. Go into system settings and turn the reference level to expanded. It'll darken the picture and make the blur less noticable, just tweek.
