Heh, so I just saw some guy post claiming he got $600+ on the RMAH in two weeks and I was curious how you even get close to that much.

I haven't done much on the RMAH, but my experience has always been that I rarely got any noticeable return. I have looked at comparable items and usually sell my items for around 25-50% less... no luck. Then I sold them for close to the minimum price and still no luck. Eventually I try to sell them for THE minimum price and still no one buys anything....

Am I just unlucky or do I not farm enough? Admittedly, when I was doing this, I was only playing for a couple of hours a night and the items were not top notch, but they were decent. Does making any type of money on this system just require constant play to get the best items? I was just curious what everyone else's experience has been with the RMAH. I have essentially given up on it and use only the gold AH, but am willing to take any suggestions to try and get back into this one.

A lot of people are lying about how much they made off of it.

Some d00d was running hundreds of bots running on macros to farm gold and items. Then he'd buy up all the best possible items to sell on the RMAH . Didn't matter what price people wanted for the item because gold is practically free when you make 250K per hour, per bot. With 100 bots that's 25 million gold per hour being farmed by one d00d.

More then likely most people are just lying about how much they make to annoy others. The most i've made so far was when i sold a pair of legendary boots@level 14 for 6$-4after their fee. and i couldn't have been happier.

The fact that somebody would pay $6 for an in-game weapon where the whole point of the game is to loot and trade up for better equipment just astounds me.

my experience with RMAH has been good, although everything I sold except for the recipe are weapons.

u just need luck, lots of luck to get those uber gear. Still, After 200+ hours clocked into this game, I haven't get an item that fits into the first page of RMAH.

Yea, I was sure the guy talking about $600 was lying, but I wanted to see if others had as little luck as me. Good to know I am not the only one.

If you are able to farm inferno act 3 and 4 efficiently during the first 2-3 weeks of RMAH, getting $600 isn't that hard.

I sold something for over £18. Can't remember what it was though. All in all I sold just under £30 in one day. It was the first day the RMAH went live. There was definately a lot of money to be made on it if you had a lot of good items.

As of today I've received $151.80 from the RMAH.

My buddy LOVES merchanting and at this point is nearing a $300 profit. He doesn't play at this point since the game is a borefest (less the recent patches had something to say about that), regardless he made a lot shortly after the RMAH was introduced. His greatest payout was a sword he bought from gold AH for 100k and resold for $50. Personally I think it was just timing considering he told me the other day that before he stopped playing he wasn't selling a whole lot. It was just in the first 2 weeks he made his big sales. I have read records of people making thousands off of it when it was new.

Yup, it's about the timing. When RMAH was just introduced, there are people willing to pay money for the not so top-end gears and higher-end gears sell like hotcakes at $200+ easily. And that was also before the items nerfing, patch 1.03 reduce the quality of drops from what I've experienced. I made $1k+ in the first two weeks, the period after that till the day I quit playing 1 month+ ago, I only have sales of about $100.

Timing. Exactly. People were making loads of money for the first couple days and weeks before prices stabilized and supply built up. I tried to sell a legendary fist weapon I found. When I got it I checked the RMAH, and the same one was averaging like $50 to $90, so I put mine up for $40. Didn't sell, and by the time I checked the price average again before putting it back up, the same weapon was now not selling for any more than $3.

Same here the whole point for me of playing d3 is to find the good loot to use. Loot means nothing to me unless i found it myself.

Unfortunately, the way the game works right now finding good loot is not viable unless you are willing to spend a LOT of time farming for the gear. I haven't put nearly as much time in as others, but I do have about 100 played hrs and I have only found a few items that were legit upgrades from what I had found previously or had blacksmithed. I think the in-game gold AH has made getting good gear that much easier. In D2 you could trade with other players and this is in effect not that much different. Rather than trading directly, you are selling the loot you don't need and using that gold in turn to buy the loot you want via the AH. There is of course still direct player to player trades, but those transactions have declined because of the "convenience" of the gold AH.

I do agree that buying stuff off the RMAH is kinda lame, but the argument for it is that these real money transactions would have occurred anyway. Now it is essentially guaranteed that you will not get scammed (unless you are considering the hefty percentage that Blizz and Paypal takes). Whereas I don't buy stuff off of the RMAH I was interested in trying to sell some things. It seems like I have misssed my opportunity though. Either way, I was probably going to just stick with the gold AH anyway because it is a bit less stressful.
