Hi i had a 40" LCD and a PS3, now i am building a HTPC (Dual Core E5200, 2GB RAM, 9400GT with HDMI out). Earlier i had connected my PS3 with an HDMI cable but now i have bought a budget HTIB and want to connect everything together (PS3, HTPC, HTIB, LCD) such that i get surround sound for everthing. How can i do that. I asked the guy at the electronics shop he said that connect everything to the TV through HDMI and then get the sound out of the TV into the HTIB. Is that possible, or is there another way.

Also is 9400GT enough for HTPC and will it also send sound over HDMI

Which HTiB did you buy? If it accepts audio signals through HDMI all you need to do is plig your ps3 and HTPC in via HDMI into the input ports of your reciever and run an HDMI cable from your reciever to your HDTV. If your reciever doesn't accept audio through HDMI you will just have to use optical/SPIDF cables from your ps3 and HTPC to your reciever in conjugunction with those HDMI cables mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps and enjoy your new media center!

If the HDMI out on your PC supplies audio as well, and the TV has an optical audio out, you could have the audio out from the TV then go to your HTIB. Would be the easiest way, and need a minimum of cables. Otherwise, you could alternatively get a sound card in it that has an optical audio out.

What HTIB did you get? Hooking up everything to a TV then using a cable from the TV to the HTIB doesn't mean surround, I'm pretty sure no TV supports passthrough of DD/DTS over SPDIF/optical.

Sure it does. Even my little Vizio supports that.

Really? Only passing through OTA digital channels is all I've seen TVs do. All Tvs I have never supported passthrough of DD or DTS

After seeing how nice my little Vizio TV was, my roommate got the same one. Unlike me though, he has a Bose 5.1 system with the receiver and speakers (and massive sub!). With only one optical audio out cable between all the different devices he has, we simply decided to just go "eh" and have it go from the optical-out on the back of the TV and have that go into the input side on the Bose receiver. A few options ticked on in the TV's menu through the remote and on the Bose, and voila... anything we're viewing on the TV (that has surround sound) gets it output through the Bose.

Okay i thought i should let go the HTIB and settle on a receiver speaker combo. I am looking at these

http://www.sony-asia.com/product/ht-ddw5500

Now it has two HDMI input's, i want to connect my ps3 and HTPC through these inputs and the output will go to the TV.

It also has three component in and i will connect my DVD player and a forseeable xbox360 with component in and connect a componenet out with the TV.

I wanted to ask you that are these speakers any good and will the whole setup work and i heard that for getting the source on TV through the receiver it should be connected with the same set of cables e.g.i would not be able to get any video from the dvd player or xbox 360 if i just plug a HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. Is this true

Also will these components support Full HD or just 720p because i am completely unaware of all these things. This is my first time doing this. So thanks for all your help and sorry for being so stupid.
