I recently started to get back to steam on my PC

My computer specs are 8gb of ram, 1gb XFX ATI 4650, Intel core2quad Q8300 2.5ghz, 300w PSU (HP desktop running win7)

It runs most of my games decently, but what else can I do to make it an even better experience?(tweaks, software, etc?)

Right now I'm defragging the hard drive and uninstalling all the programs I don't use.

You can get a new, overclockable bios from Pheonix, AMI, or Award. I paid $30 for one a few years ago for my compaq, but I have no idea what they cost now. Then get a CM 212+ for about $25, upgrade your GPU, and you'll be good to go for atleast another year.. Oh, and this is the storefront for all of the major bios makers... esupport

Picking up a better gpu would allow you to better gaming performance a 5670 or 6670 would give a good boost while having that 300w psu

exactly. unless you installed that gpu yourself. however even then odds are you wont get a hgue leap. only a part based replacement would garnish improvements. id specifically target the gpu first and then id scrap the ram and mobo as well in favor of proper stuff.

thatd remove the locks and securities dell has in place, and then we can get down to the real fun stuff :D

oh id also make you go get a freezer 7 pro cpu cooler

I'm a bit right on money right now but I will be getting another GPU and PSU by christmas. My phone was stolen on friday and I'm flat broke :/

My socket is LGA 775, is there a CPU worth upgrading to? most of the new stuff requires a diff mobo with the appropriate socket. Also can you guys provide me with mroe details on purchasing a bios?

TThanks for the tips!

One site had Q9550's for $50 a few months ago, but they're back up to like $300 for some reason. In other words, you're best off sticking with the CPU that you have until you get a MB with a newer socket type...

Yeah, that would likely be better than buying a new bios and a pack of cheap heatsinks for the mosfets.. I hated my motherboard before I liquid cooled the NB and put better heatsinks on the SB and mosfets...
