I was just reading TweakGuides.com about Oblivion and they had some tips about duals that I did not know. They will benefit all games that support dual which they confirm Oblivion DOES.

1. Turn off "Cool'n'Quiet" in your BIOS as this was not designed with gaming in mind.

2. If you use XP and an AMD X2 install the AMD Dual Optimizer from AMD - http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html

This was news to me and I had not done either of these. This should make all games that can use dual run smoother. Here is a link to where I got this info - http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_13.html

Really? Do you have any links to studies / articles about that? I would be very interested to see.

Edit: I just did some google searches about this and I found nothing, either real articles or forum posts saying the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer decreases perfomance. Everything I saw said it was good and helped both single a dual apps. Even at www.overclockers.co.uk/they all said good things about it.

Strange, cause all the articles I found say there is no difference or that it crashes windows after installation (especially with Opterons).

At any rate, I couldn't find any benchmarks.

Do a google search for "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer decreases perfomance" and tell me what you see...

Still waiting for a link to anything, I mean anything supporting the claims that it's bad. I just keep getting hear-say. Good lord even a link to a post made on this board from back when it came out would be better than nothing. But instead we just keep getting nothing.

And for the record I tried really, really hard to google and find one single shred saying the AMD Dual Optimizer was bad. Even just another lame hear-say post on another board and I found nothing.

The problem with Cool 'n' Quiet is just that you need to disable it in order to overclock. Since most modern CPUs benefit greatly from a decent overclock, it makes sense to trade power savings in for performance.
