How to use old hard drive when building new pc

I have a 60gb seagate hd with windows xp home on it. I want to use it for my new pc, but i don't have a disk. What are my options?

You can always transfer from drive to drive....

no, i will be using both hard drives in the pc. I don't have a windows xp disk, nor do i have a disk for the hdd. How do i salvage XP?

just put the old hard drive in your new puter .. what disk do you need ? winxp disk?.

Well I thought I wouid need the windows xp disk to get it running on the new pc... but if it's already on the hdd, i just use the hdd and it's ready to go?

You're going to have to be careful with drivers though.

Boot into safemode on your first boot (tap F8 during boot), and run drivercleaner for your video card drivers.

Then when you reboot normally Windows will ask you to re-register, if you have to call Microsoft just tell them that you are rebuilding and they should understand.

Check device manager to see if you have any hardware conflicts afterwards.

I always like to freshen up and reformat with a new PC though, just a thought.

Yeah, if anything gets fishy just reformat. The point is that if you want to migrate you need something to migrate with, whether that be a DVD burner or an iPod in disk mode :D

exactly. 

No it won't. You need the OS disk.

It would be best to save things you want to transfer like pictures, songs, papers to an external HDD or DVD's.  Use a program like Western digital's or windows when you insert the cd to wipe the partition.  Take the drive and transfer it to the new tower.  Create a partition, install windows.  Goodluck
