I am currently building a PC to mainly run low-end games such as World of Warcraft , Counter Strike Source, possibly Doom 3. Just something very basic. (I mainly play WoW on PC but the extra games aren't completely necessary.

Here is the link to the parts:https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=10491486

If you don't wanna click I'll type them out also.

Computer Case: Raidmax Scorpio ATX Midtower. Comes with 420watts PS2 ATX12V Power Supply and 3 80mm fans $50

CD/DVD Burner: Lite On 20x DVD R Burner $20

HDD: Western Digital Caviar 7200 RPM 80g Hardrive (Considering on Upgrading for more space possibly 160gb)$35

MoBo: Foxconn M61PMV AM2+/AM2 Nvidia 6100 onboard Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (Seems like it would be alright, but a little afraid 2 PCI slots and small amount of memory might be unable to upgrade if I want to in the future) $44

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000 Brisbane 2.6 Ghz Socket AM2 $53

Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100272L Radeon HD 2400PRO 512MB 62-bit GDDR2 (Comes with a free trial of WoW thats what really sold me to thinking it will run WoW decently =P) $30

Memory: Kingston HyperX 1GB DDR2 800 (Bought 2 sticks) $28

Very very cheap system but I included an Operating System (Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit) and a pretty good monitor. I'm also fairly sure all these parts are compatible with each other. If there is anything I should upgrade let me know I just want to run wow at around Medium specs without any FPS lag.

(The whole complete system is around $498 if it can handle WoW well then that would be one hell of a deal in my eyes.)

The Mobo isn't very good thoe. only 2 PCI slots and no PCI-E slots is a problem. You won't be able to upgrade stuff like the video card in the future.

I know... =[

Thats the thing I was worried about. And it only has 4gb memory, which I guess isnt so bad. But I do want a mobo with at least a pci 2.0 16 slot that way I can get a higherend video card if I want to upgrade hardcore.

Spend $30 more on the motherboard and $20 more on the cpu to get the x2 6000+ and it won't be half bad.

I may not have enought money to afford a more exspensive video card and mobo. It all depends how much I sell my laptop for.

Also, do you guys think it would be better for me to get Vista or XP?

I was thinking XP because it seems Vista uses too much memory and all this other junk. And it also seems very unstable. I might as well just go with the XP but I don't own any copies of previous copies of OS's so I have to purchase one of them.

exceptionally overquailifed. dude a pentium 4 2.0ghz, on a generic mobo with generic power and its onboard chipset will play WoW at 28fps on MAX of all things. with say a 20GB HDD and 1.5GB ram.

anyway as for the origional poster id get an hd 4550, its got a faster VGA memory and preforms significantly better for roughly the same price: 2400 a $25.00, 4550 at $40.00. i owned one of those 2400 pros, there a piece of junk not fit to play dollar store DVD's. it would also give you a jump start on the industry as all 4000 series ati cards are dx11 compatible whereas the 2000's wont..err i think.

Rdiz

Yes any dual core processor goes good with wow, but personally I don't like intel, a lot more expensive but the clocks run a lot lower than AMD though. And AMD is much cheaper. The 250gb hard drive isn't going to really affect wow performance. But your video card will. The ram is good, I would go with 2gb though cheaper and the extra gig isn't really necessary. The way I see it my pc should be able to deal wow extremely nicely my specs go way beyond the recommended. I'm just not for sure how it will play out. I just don't want to spend 500 dollars and find out that this machine I built for WoW turns out to only get 20 FPS on Medium to High settings I will be really frustrated.

Sounds good, But the settings you listed above, only 28 FPS?? That sounds terrible, makes me feel nervous about my system. Is there a site to where you can check and see how specs will run ingame?

Also as for the HD4550 is it a card that requires me to purchase a new mobo? I don't really want to go over the top with the mobo, im on a pretty strict budget of around $540 bucks.

sapphire hd 4550: 512mb gddr3, pci-e 2.0, windows vista/xp compatible, has 1 dvi -, 1 serial cable and 1 vga input port comes in both gpu fan and gpu heatsink single layer. currently this is the best entry level card on the market and comes crossfire ready if in the future u decide to do something like that.

and as for that 28fps, i was talking like if he were to go out and get a storebought PC thats the kind of fps he would be looking at, so what hes doing is overqualified haha.

anyhow yeah the 2400 is junk escpecially if u plan on making full use of your pci-e 2.0 slot as the 2400 is only pci-e 1.0. it would still work but it wouldnt be as good. believe me.

here the link to the card i suggest on newegg

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=525&card2=584

there u are check em out the 4550 does double what the 2400 can even before u reach gaming tests. in short 4550 is made of working class win.

I see your point, the only problem is this card will require me to buy a new mobo which I know I should do but don't really want to. I am possibly thinking about dropping the monitor. That way my pc will be 120 dollars better.

Get XP, and go a few tiers up the mobo scale. You might also consider more/faster RAM so when you become bored of WoW, you will be able to play other, contemporary games. Look at it this way: spend $500 now and be able to play some games decent-to-poor, or save up and get one capable of playing the newest, cutting-edge games decent and other games excellently. It's your call, obviously, but you would be better in the long run if you wait and get something better for your dollar. Patience is key.

Thats the thing, I really could care less for high end gaming. My 360 covers that end. All I really play on the computer is WoW and I really don't have a desire to play anything else, except for Counter Strike Source.

The only thing is, perhaps someday soon you will be, or you get sick of your 360, etc etc. I'm simply saying that a little prudence would save you a headache later down the road.

Its a good idea, but seriously I have been doing this for years, the only thing I would get into is Crysis. I could wait but I have already been waiting a really long time to play wow decently because my pc sucks really big wang. It runs below 16 fps with all low settings. I haven't changed the resolution but I can't play with crap resolution.

Basically, players on both teams start with a pistol and for every kill, they progress up the weapon tree (better pistols, SMGs, shotties, etc and so forth). There are several varieties, such as reverse gungame, but they all have the same general idea.

Now that, I am not really sure of. Let me tell you what I know.

Quad Cores are popular because you are able to run a lot of programs at once and even a game without any fps lag, but then again the speeds (so what I have been told) are identical to Dual Cores. The only real reason I know that people buy these processors is to set up for the future of gaming. As of right now there aren't any programs out there that take full use of the Quad Core processor. Imo they aren't worth it until that future actually comes lol.

There are a few games that take advantage of quads... a few RTS do, and GTA IV, maybe something else ive forgotten about. But I agree, for the most part they arn't worth it imo, they are just as good for gaming, you just won't be able to take advantage of the extras cores in games right now.

Ya even GTA IV isn't worth enough for a Quad Imo, I'd rather just pay 60 bucks for it on xbox, well I guess I already have it soo... yea.

Ya when you gave me advice on that, I went and looked it up and found that out. I upgraded a few components on my pc.

I upgraded the mobo and the video card and I believe I am going to downgrade the mobo, I just want to have at least 3 pci slots in case I wanna do the whole Crossfire thing.

Here they are

MSI K9A2VM-FD Micro ATX Mobo includes 1 PCI 2.0 x16 slot and supports DDR 2 1066 memory. (I am thinking I should definetly downgrade this) $70 bucks

Upgraded the HDD to 160gb

Damn, that is tough love from your parents! Pick up a paper route or whatever young 'uns do these days then they will be more lenient.

Well, its when my dad gets paid from when he was laid off and just got a new job, I have over half the money right now and he wants to buy my old computer for 200. And I lied about being a kid I'm actually 17 years old. I live in a small town and it is very hard to find work around here, otherwise If I did have a job I would build a bamf machine.

The FOXCONN M61PMV with integrated 6100 mobo should handle warcraft even without a dadicated video card. For $20-$30 more you can get a board with the 8200 inegrated graphics from newegg.com and it will handle warcraft even better than the 6100 northbridge. You can get a board with blizzard supported graphics so you can save up for a top of the line card down the road if you want. Here is the official site for blizzard supported video cards and integrated graphics.

htp://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww0830p

Here is the rig I am leaning toward, to replace my ageing AGP computer. It is not top of the line but it has a lot of room to upgrade and will play warcraft very well. All components listed on Newegg.com

Case; Rosewill R891SL with 350W PSU (24 pin & 1SATA connecter) $34

Mobo; Foxconn M61PMV AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA 6100 Micro ATX (4pin to SATA power cable) $40

Ram; Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240 pin SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC 6400) dual channel $20

Hdd; Western Digital caviar blue 80GB 8MB Cache SATA 3.0GB/s model WD800JD $35

Dvd rom/burner; LG black SATA model GH22NS30 $24

Video card; SPARKLE SFPX73GDHU2512 GeForce 7300 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express X16 $30

This is an inexpensive, highly upgradeable starter all for the low cost of $245+shipping. This will run warcraft with no problems and probably on high settings. A friend of mine has the geforce 7300 GT and runs warcraft on med/high settings smooth with good FPS. This rig will play WoW and I am assuming it will play Doom 3 as well. The processor I listed lists 800 FSB, but the reviews say it runs at 1000 hyperthread. Every thing I listed can be upgraded to more expensive and more powerful parts, but it is a great start for a budget gamer.

The most important part of the rig, to run World of Warcraft, is descent graphics (dedicated or integrated), CPU FSB 800MHz or better, and 1GB memory (for Windows XP) or 2GB (for Windows vista). You can run with 512MB of memory but I dont know how well. I ran it with 256MB memory, a Celeron CPU, and old SIS integrated graphics for a while on low settings, but it would get a little choppy. But I am going to build a new rig after income tax refund. You would only need a high end video card or 2 video cards (SLI) for the new high end games. You would only need to run multiple raid HDD for the new high end games. Im going for a budget build to run WoW and low end games for now. I will wait to see what new technologies they are going to come out with before I think about investing in SLI and RAID. I cant wait to get the new rig built so I can play a deathnight.

Untill then, DRUIDS RULE!
