I just heard the news about Warhammer 40k turning into a mmo and i wonder how will this work? I mean its not as ez as the fantsy game Warhammer becuase 40k is all guns pretty much. I was thinking of the posiablety of this and had a good idea too but not sure if this game will be like that. maybe they could make it a bit like planetside, but that game is not too balanced.... I hope they make MMOrpg maybe with a shooting aspect. I think the playable races will be Space Marines and Chaos, maybe Imperial Guardsman, Probably the Eldar and maybe the Dark Eldar. But if they do chose Space Marines how will you chose your chapter maybe they will alow you to customize your troops like DoW. Or they will have the most played chapters... The non playable races will probably be the Orks b/c there so numerous...and the Tyranids b/c they are crazy in numbers like the orks. Not to sure about anyother ones. If you have any thought about this game post them here

i would expect there to be roleplaying elements in there, though not as strong as the more traditional mmorpgs - but i don't see them avoiding the rpg elements alltogether, afterall - it's the rpg in mmorpg, not the mmo, that keeps people playing for years and years as their characters develop and their items improve - any developer looking to keep subscribers long term would do well to throw in a healthy amount of rpg character building, even if they're going for an action oriented game

that aside, it's likely to be a first and/or third person team-combat oriented real time shooter as someone above said, like planetside - possibly rvr, possibly pve, probably a mixture of the two - though the warhammer 40k universe is such that rvr would be difficult given that just about everyone is at war with everyone else, unless they plan to only have half the races in there (they will naturally keep a few back for expansions anyway)

it was obvious a wh40k mmo was coming, but i'm very pleased that it's finally been announced, i gave up mmos for good when i quit everquest a few years back, but i will definitely give the wh40k mmo a try

See the problem i find with the 40k mmo is that its really not just a two sided affair like WOW. Wh40k is much much more complicated.  Humans(IG and SM's) are by themselves and hate all the other races. As in dont talk just shoot hatred.  The other races are not a group against the humans though. It wil be interseting to see how it turns out as a mmo since all the races would rather see each other dead (except the tau) than breath the same air.  Dont get me wrong i love 40k.

Well they haven't confirmed its an rpg, games workshop and the studio that has done the dawn of war games have done a great job with the canon and story for the series. I imagine everything will be very balanced.

I really hope they will make a MMOFPS a out of it with maybe a 3rd person view included in it..

Each race could have their own homebase, spaceship as a HQ.. There you could train with weapons, meet up with squad and group buddies, meet and talk to famous commanders and heroes NPC characters, plan your next attack, and heck, even take a galactic protein shake!! :P Then you would either go by drop pods, space transport or even a teleporter to the planet where the fight is on.. You would fight over hundreds of objectives and gain exp when you took over them and held them.. In a battle, your race should be in need of every class so you would not see everyone running around as a terminator or a dreadnaught... I really dont know how they will do to balance the races because SM is by far superior to IG and so on...  There's alot of things to think about.. But i really hope the devs will use the very latest in graphics and physics and not hold back... This game can with ease set a milestone in the MMO industry if it's made in "the right way".. Just look on the thousands of pages info and artwork GW already created for W40k.. Cross my fingers that everything goes the devs way..

Well SWG was all guns and that worked fine till they ruined it.

Imo a fpsmmo wont work unless it's done like Planetside but even then it's risky because they don't draw in massive crowds. I'd much prefer a slower paced RPG because it's more relaxing for a mmo and i feel liek i could just be logged in a customise my toon.

I wish for another game to be released that worked like SWG pre cu :(

The problem is with warhammer 40k is that its always a massive conflict with thousands of troops on the battlefield at each time. it not MMORPG material.

It'd be cool playing as a space marine :) But I guess that's too cliche..

I love the idea of a MMORPG 40k! I'd always pictured the next incarnation of this coming out as a Battlefield 2-type game, but I'm excited to see how they work this. It'll be tough! I think this will likely either be amazing or be awful; I don't really see it coming down somewhere in-between.

Damn, I have no idea how this game would work, but I see so much potential in it that I can't explain it all. Races that obviously hate each other, serious PVP between races. Maybe an MMOFPS, look at Face of Mankind, kind of bad but use it's example to run WH40k MMO on it. Imagine working your way to become an Inquisitor, or become one of the Astartes, or become something more. This has so much potential I just hope THQ and Games Workshop will take it slowly and just release something beautiful.

From what I can tell, Vigil Games is a fairly recent development team...but it is headed by a fellow from NCSoft.  Of course, that might not mean much, but it *is* something.

Just thinking of the possible expansions packs for this thing is mind-boggling.  Finally, a game franchise that could blow The Sims expansion packs out of the water (by the number of expansions released, that is).  Seriously though, I'd kill to be a Warp Spider...
