Compared to Company of Heroes, Warcraft III, Star Craft, Age of Mythology, etc., does Command & Conquer 3 hold up next to some of these RTS greats?

C&C 3 is an amazing game. Its just good basic RTS combat.
If you are a fan of previous games, C&C 3 is up there with the best.
If you want something new and revolutionary, wait for Sins of a Solar Empire. But C&C 3 is def. better than WiC, Supreme Commander, Warcraft 3, and a few other titles. But this is from a long time C&C fan so take it for what its worth (im no fanboy, tho...I can admit when a game sucks).
Is it as good as Red Alert?CrazyFanboy
No. Red Alert is the standard imo also tho.
I'd rank C&C 3 better than C&C 1, but not as good as Red Alert.

ASK_Story
Not very highly. It comes no where near games like Company of Heroes. I prefer older games like Age of Mythology to C&C3.
Another EA clone? C&C died for me after Red Alert 2.Swiftstrike5
Do you mean you feel it died because of Red Alert 2, or do you mean that was the last good C&C game? Just curious, I'm not sure which you mean.
All of the recent RTS games have been overrated. None of them have had anything that older games had except better graphics. CnC3 was the same gameplay as every other CnC game. World in Conflict is the most overrated RTS game of the last few years. Anyone who thinks it's a great game obviously hasn't played many RTS games. RTS is the 2nd most boring genre in gaming today after FPS. Better graphics on an old boring shell of gameplay does not equal greatness. The average flash game is better than the crap that's been getting "good" reviews on most game sites these days.fenriz275
Company of Heroe? Medieval 2 Total War?
I am going to say this about the C&C series.
Its the Quake and Doom of the RTS genre. Plain and simple, theyre straight-forward action-filled games. They may not be revolutionary like Homeworld or epic like Supreme Commander, and online play may not be perfect like Starcraft, but theyre ALWAYS a good time. I think any fan of the genre that hates C&C is just being uptight...so what if Starcraft is your personal standard? Who cares if the maps arent as big as SupCom? Youre going to let that stop you from enjoying a great game?
C&C is way diff than WiC....2 diff genres of RTS. all time greats are C&C, Alpha Centauri, Master's of Orion 2, Civilization, Company of Heroes and World in conflict are just modern day greats and hopefully will contain a great series to follow.JordanCupcakes
While the sentiment is nice, there's a lot wrong with this post - sorry Jordan. You can't have two genres of an RTS, RTS IS the genre. You can have sub-genres, or types though. Also, while great games, MoO2, AC, and Civ are NOT RTS games and have no bearing on the topic.
Compared to games like Age of Empires II, StarCraft, Total Annihilation, the original Command & Conquer, Red Alert and the others? I've have played only a couple hours and I can tell you it is one of the worst RTS games I have played, compared to the "greats" it feels like a casualised unit spam fest designed only to satisfy a player desire of rushing a base with lots of units. It should be called a "Real Time Rushing Game" seeing as how there really isn't any strategy involved.foxhound_fox
Every game played as Nod,
1. Survive until ready for Scorpion tank spam with the laser upgrade
2. ???
3. Win
C&C 3 is not an RTS game, it's a real time spam game. That game takes no skill, just spam tanks, spam tanks, spam tanks till you win. C&C 3, one of the worst RTS game ever made imo. TS had a great story, but C&C 3 killed the damn story imho.
WTF Gamespot? You gave COH and C&C 3 the same score(9)? WTF????? And you gave DOW an 8.8? Starcraft 9.1? Does this mean that C&C 3 is better than DOW and equalent to COH and Starcraft?

youre arguing over the difference of 0.3 points, dude. Not to mention that, besides being in the same genre, C&C3 and CoH/DoW are about as far apart from eachother as possible. Either way, they both kick ass, both have flaws.

I loved Red Alert 2. Played it for hours straight just to see how many units I could build and what not. Probably my favorite RTS after Total Annihiliation.
Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes were 100x better games then Command and Conquer 3. I dont know how CC3 would be considered among other great RTS games, unless CC3 was put out 10 years ago. EA made Command and Conquer 3 with no innovation with a total lackluster.Jd1680a
Sup Comm is more of a spam game then any other game I've seen. I've watched friends play it, and played it myself, and the only reall effective strat is massing a rediculous amount of t1 and t2 tanks/artillery/whatever. Not to mention the units aren't very "special" up until like experimentals, there almost the same from faction to faction; just T2 has stronger stats then T1. At least in C&C3 you could tell that the units had more thought into them then "Heavy tank" "Scout" "Artillery".
Sorry bout that, I've developed a small hate for Sup Comm due to the rabid fanboys that invaded the C&C Boards back when both games were yet to be released.
But further more, if you would have read most C&C Forums, alot of C&C fans dideen't care about innovation all that much, they (including myself) wanted the game to return to its roots for the most part, MCV system (the crane and emmisary were actually good inovations for this system IMO), side bar etc. I personally diden't care about Innovation because I was iffy about anouther EA C&C, especially after that atrocity Generals (It had no relevance to the C&C story in any way). I think EA did a good job with this game though.
oh and if your beat by single unit spam, your not all that great at the game IMO, its actually suprisingly easy to counter......

that is EXACTLY how I feel about both games. I still dont understand why people expectec anything new in C&C3. If you were let down, its your own fault.

Company of Heroe? Medieval 2 Total War?
M2:TW is awesome and all but dont use it as an example of a new RTS.C&C 3 isn't exactly like it's past C&C games, like crates and music for examples, they were both dumbed down. The whole technolgy of C&C 3 is dumbed down compared to TS/FS. I am a long time C&C fan, I enjoyed most C&C games, I played all C&C games, starting with TD. And I felt that C&C 3 was pure crap.

Thats because you guys either didn't have the patience or intelligence to learn Supcom. It has a billion times more depth then the shallow garbage spam CNC series.
If you play online and dont make use of different groups, land, air and sea and many different unit types mixed, proper microing, etc you will get freaking raped by any decent player and if you had spent a good amount of time with the online you would know this.
I would call CNC the 50 cent bullet proof of RTS games long before I'd call it the Doom of RTS games.
It's a game with no substance and little to know concept of decent balance and super popular that gets sales off it's name not it's quality.
Stop with the innovation bs, CNC 3 is a garbage game because even compared to your standard RTS games it is piss poor in key areas like balance not because it doesn't have some super zoom.
I got it! And so far, I really do like it.
It's a really fun game, non-stop, action. I guess it doesn't have the same depth as Starcraft, Company of Heroes, or Age of Mythology, but I think it's just as fun. I also love the cheesy cinematics.
I can understand the responses who don't like C&C3...but I like it.
