Hey everyone, I was wondering how's the full game. I played the demo not long ago and it was quite good.

I ran the game decently, do you think it's worth buying with this rig: 8400m gt 256mb., t7100 intel 1.8, 2gb 667 ram, 160gb hdd. Or should i get Kotor?

The Witcher is a great game but if you have to choose one, get KotOR first then The Witcher later.

KOTOR for sure I mean The Witcher is great but I had lots of fond memories playing KOTOR and you'll be able to max out KOTOR np, btw make sure you get the original KOTOR and not the second one

I'd say The Witcher is one of the top 5 RPG's of all time. It's about the best I've seen for the PC this decade. However, I'd hold off on buying it until they release the updated edition. They are going through and making a lot of changes to the original game to fix many of the complaints and releasing it as a new edition. The update is supposed to squash a lot of bugs, add a lot of new NPC models, improve the voice-overs (which were already pretty good for a translated game), improve load times by as much as 80%, and add more quests (IIRC). The update is supposed to be available as a free download to people who already have the game, or it will be sold in a sort of a special edition. I'm buying the special edition form even though I have the original.

I seem to recall that they current release date for this enhanced edition is sometime this summer, but I don't really remember when. I think it would be well worth the wait.

i've played about an hour or two, and i haven't seen anything to make me gasp (except the cheesy dialogues), but i hear it's excellent, so i'm willing to give it some leeway and keep trying it out. well, after i finish mass effect, that is.

It is decent but by no means great, it is just the only decent rpg to come exclusively to pc for a while so people loved it way more then it desearved, get KOTOR it is a much much better game.

If you have the oppertunity to pick up Mass effect and if your computer can handle, i suggest you ditch the Witcher and get Mass effect, The thing is with "The Witcher" most of the decisions are fixed within the game, it isnt as open ended as kotor was or any other rpg. Overall its a great game, its combat system is quite good, its definantly a purchase if you can find a deal on it, not so much if you cannot.

Witcher is so horribly underrated across review sites that it makes me a little angry. This game averages a touch over 80% on most sites which is a great travesty let me assure you. I'm not sure how it managed to get some really low scores in some publications, if you play it for more than 20 hours you will see how good it is.

if you like star wars, a good game to start with is knights of the old republic; it's not overly complex, and the character creation and leveling system are pretty simple compared to those in other games. or mass effect, if you're not fond of star wars; it's got pretty much the same rpg elements as does the kotor series, minus the star wars theme.

Maybe not for a first RPG, I think you'd be better served by Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate, Oblivion (action heavy, can be a good intro to light RPG) or Mass Effect.

depends, if you like the Role Play in RPG's then no. the witcher is rather linear with it's character and game-play.

games like Mass Effect, KOTOR I &II, Jade Empire, and Fable are better places to start.

While I do agree somewhat on the linearity of the game, I do think it did a good job in terms of roleplaying your character.

Its one of the better games in recent years to have given the player real decisions that truly affect the outcome of the quest at hand, or the overall plot. I loved how sometimes the effects of your decisions we're immediately apparent, and sometimes you didnt see the effects until a few chapters later. Big + in terms of replayability.

id save for a new gpu if i were you. it would only cost 2 witchers to get a better one!

sorry if thats really unhelpful! i havent played the games myself, only the demo of the witcher which was alright, but the combat is questionable as always in rpgs.

the witcher is nothing but a failure to actual roleplaying. an epic failure! you can't chose your sex, race, looks, background, or class! so how can you roleplay??? it's an action RPG in gameplay and choices but not in the actual ability to make a character you want! the witcher is a storied action game in RPG clothing, a bad one at that.

you are such a witcher fan boy noob that your comments are beyond fan boy praise, they are comical!!!!

yeah becuae who in the world would want to be a badass monster slayer who can get chicks even though hes ugly as hell..

Just because you cant choose your class/race or w/e doesnt mean you cant roleplay, you just need to PLAY the ROLE of an ancient monster slayer. Hence why its called a ROLE PLAYING GAME. If you have even gotten at leat mid way in the game you would understand why. If you think that choosing a class and being able to buy "T3H l33t armours!!" makes a game an RPG than you need to expand your list of games from just oblivion and WoW.

if you play games because that is the only way you can "get chicks" you are one sad individual

P.S. When you type in all caps, that means you are yelling...or an idiot who thinks he needs to highlight key words to make his point. You SEE anyone CAN cap ANY word they WANT to, IT does NOT make YOUR point ANY better OR clearer. IT just makes YOU look like a CLOWN.

ct1615

how mature.. point out things that have nothing to do with the conversation.. a sign of not knowing what to say perhaps?

Yes out of my entire statement the only thing that matters was the fact you can "get chicks". Come back when you have something relevant to the conversation. Using caps on such words is a use of emphasis towards certain words in which have something to do with the conversation.. commonly used by writers if you have ever read a book other than the "Oblivion strategy guide". Also.. if putting words in caps makes me look like a clown.. why do you insist on replicating it? Wouldn't that make you look like a bigger clown?

ok im done arguing if your not going to post something intelligent.

The witcher is a fantastic RPG.. reminds me of nwn2 a bit without all of the customisation bells and whistles.. it is a straight up linear RPG and projekt red did a fantastic job with the storyline. Id recommend it to anyone who loves RPGs.

Oh grow up.

The witcher is a great game, and it does have RP elements. For example many say Oblivion isn't an RPG. Like me, I think oblivion is an action game, and a pretty poor one at that.

And to the driver issue, isn't there a way on nvideas website you can get the drivers to download automaticaly? And have you tried uninstalling your old drivers and installing the new ones?

After hitting several thread today, I have to say, ct1615, you and " the review" should get together. Your comments make about about the same amount of sense. Which is to say, none. You're both immature idiots. Not to mention the fact that you liked kotor 2 proves it. That was one of the lamest games to come out in a while. The Godfather let you change how you looked so I guess by your standards that makes it a great rpg too huh! Duh!!!! Your arguments are pointless and have absolutely no merit. The witcher is a great game and deserves better then you even playing it. Stick with kotor 2, it fits you. Both are empty feeling and have pathetic dialog. Yeah, I think you and "the review" would make great buddies. Look him up. You guys are soul mates.

Personally I enjoyed The Witcher more than KOTOR. KOTOR was an awesome game but it just didnt have the same story as The Witcher does. And if you prefer more mature games, definitely pick The Witcher, some of the scenes and quests make you feel really Bad@$$

to be honest, Kotor never really impressed me. the game world is suprisingly small and limited; the dialogues are very poorly written in BioWare's standard; and since you're basically stuck with 3 classes, i wouldn't say it has a deep rpg system. the combat in that game is pretty awesome tho -- IF you are ok with the lack of enemy types and their incompetence.

in your case, since you've tried and like Witcher, i think you should give it a try. but it's not gonna run as smooth as Kotor would on your rig, that's for sure.

It probably wont appeal to children due to its emphasis on story and character relations over epic battles and character customization. One day youll appreciate mature themes and possibly even give this game another shot. Enough said
