the 1950PRO is slightly better than a 7900GS...if that means anything to you.

You're paying way too much for what you're getting, I could price this for half of what you're paying.

maybe you could ditch the x1950 and go with an 8800gts 320 or 640... then you're prepared for dx10 and its not that much more $$. though i'm not sure if you'll need a new PSU for that.

People in kangaroo land get ripped off even worse than Brits and Canucks. That exchange rate does not equal out proportionally to USD, you could get much better deals here in the U S of A. Perhaps shipping to an island half way around the globe raises prices by 25% to 50% automatically after exchange rate is factored.

The Smartpower 2.0 power supply that comes with your machine isn't too bad - considering the AU prices, that's not a bad machine at all.

That GA-965P-S3 retails for $100 to $130 in the US. That should equal to about $150 in kangaroo land.RikkAndrsn

Yes, it should - if you're paying for one in the U.S. with Australian dollars. In America, prices are very low and supply and demand are both high. In Australia, such is not the case, and you pay a premium for premium parts, since there isn't a huge market for them.

zippy ftw!! anyway...

those prices are still high. you can get it for at least 200 to 400 dollars cheaper with some searching. (in new zealand - you can get that same one for 300 dollars cheaper) and new zealand is even more expensive!

Nope, you have to go with the 8*00 series or the the new ATI HD 2900XT for those features.

ahmedkandil

The X1950Pro should be able to handle Crysis at rather reasonable settings, yes.

Edit: And yes, HIS is one of the best ATI manufacturers on the market, second only to Sapphire in terms of goodies and returns. The ICEQ 3 cooler is great indeed, although the X1950Pro wasn't plagued with nearly the horror stories about its stock cooler that the dual-slot X18/X19 series cards were. Still, it's a very quiet and efficient cooler, and certainly worth the $20-$30 it generally costs over the standard one.

The 8800GTS isn't 12.2" long...where did you hear that? The 8800GTX is just a bit over 10" long, and the 8800GTS is only 9" long (the same size as your X1950Pro). And pretty much every ATX case on the market right now can support a 9" long video card.

I believe what the magazine meant was that there is 12.2" of space between the rear expansion ports and the drive cage, which will accomodate the nearly 2" shorter 8800GTX. But the 8800GTS is the same size as the X1950XT, at least length-wise, and with video cards moving to 80 and 65nm processes rather than the 8800GTX's 90nm, I think it's safe to say that we won't be seeing any card over 11" any time soon.

The currentcies in Australia is twice the USD, so it isnt bad of the prices you applied to.

Tho if you willing to spend more cash, you might as well get a batter graphicscard. Can you shop at one place like, Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com, I think you're shoping at too many places there. Im just saying, I dont mean to be rude, it's your money.
