gaming keyboards offer backlight LEDs for dark room, which most gamers use.
gaming keyboards offer softer keys
gaming keyboards offer macro keys for MMO, RPG, RTS, Sims and photoshop, webdesign,
gaming keyboards are known for better button respones time, which relates to the softness of the keys
gaming keyboards are built sometimes with special layouts for gaming
gaming keyboards offer special "memory" for different games [i.e. switching from UT3, to CSS to WoW]
gaming keyboards like the G15, offer Winamp service, temp monitoring, frag counts, anything with the game.
gaming keyboards start as low as regular keyboards
gaming keyboard user will pwn a person of equal talent if one used a gaming keyboard and the other a non gaming keybaord, due to the softer keys and faster response time.

You knock gaming keyboards, but you have a gaming mouse? thats kind of funny.

lol obviously never used a crappy office keyboard compared to a gaming keyboard. Feel free to sig it, but its the truth. You just have to think about the logic behind it.

Joe and Bob are the best gamers in the world. Joe has his G15 and Bob has his Microsoft Generic keyboard. Joe is going to most likely end up with more kills or less deaths, mainly due to the fact that he can respond faster, due to the response time and his softer key strokes. Why else would they make a gaming keyboard with better response time and softer keystrokes. Also the fact that not all generic keyboards allow a lot of keystrokes at once.

Same logic for people with a gaming mouse. A Logitech G5 will net you more kills then a Logitech generic optical/ball mouse.

Obivously have never played CAL O and M in your lives for gaming.

I personally prefer the old G15 compared to the new revision...though both have absolutely nothing on an IBM Model M variant. (I own one of the original IBM models, part no. 1391401, though Unicomp sells modern versions, some of which are USB.)

Tottaly true, I got some cheap keyboard with my computer where all the keys were close together like laptop keys, after a while i ended up buying some Logitech keyboard and my typing speed increased ALOT, since i mostly play MMOs it was worth it, so i could see how boards MEANT to play games ACTUALLY play games better.

So you are comparing a crappy keyboard to a logitech one.How about this keyboatd which only costs $20.

And how about this gaming mouse for $20.

http://www.a4tech.com/en/product2.asp?CID=102&SCID=103&MNO=X-718F

In $40 you got yourself really good keyboard and mouse for gaming rather than spening $150 on overpriced logitech products.

I've had it for almost a year now I think, and It still works perfectly. I love my G15. Aloooot of macro buttons, and a cool LCD screen where you can control your media like the volume or song on Itunes or whatever you use.

It's a nice keyboard. I have one just like it but I only payed $25 for it on sale. I wouldn't have got it if it was anything over $50.

Hmmm overpriced, not really for what youre getting. Lets see, adjustable weights, nylon cord, ergonomically designed to the palm of a hand, quality components, great service and usually the first to the market with a product and people follow. That what you get when you pay for a Logitech. Thats like saying you overpayed for a Ferrari [Logitech G5] and you own a Nissan 350z [A4Tech X7]. Both are great, but you are paying for not only name, but a better quality product.

People who say that there is no difference between keyboards and mice are not or have not been competitive gamers IMO. I used to be, not anymore, but after always using quality keybaords, mice and pads, I will always want it. Trust me, if I was to drop any, but maybe my mouse pad [depending on the surface] I would have a lower K: D ratio. Instead of 2/3:1 in UT3, I could be 1.5:1. Thats alot. That is the difference between CAL O and M in CSS. Difference from 4 in the world in UT3 to out of the top 50.

Hell just switching to another good mouse takes a while to get used to. If I was to get a Razor, I would probably sheet the bed for a while before I got used to it, but to drop to a lower tiered product would hurt more.

I now work alot and well, turn down to play CAL for CScause I just cant forth the time. Plus the fact that UT3 is freaking crazy and tears faces. The player base is getting bigger and bigger, but Im sure Torrents helped that out. Nothing like a shock combo and watching a body be grabbed and swirled around in the air before exploding into human chunks and then a rocket launch on 3 more people for a MEGA KILL!!!!!!!!

So, so very wrong. I'm a very competitive gamer, playing Quake 3 and 4 for hours upon hours a day to get better, and always finding ways to improve.

I'm using a simple 20 dollar kb, and a Microsoft WMO 1.1a mouse. So you think I honestly have a disadvantage compared to someone using a G5 and some "gaming kb"?

If you do, then you have much to learn my friend. Most CAL-O/M and professional CS players use a IME 3.0(technically a gaming mouse, but its not high tech) or a WMO, and 1.1. Why? because not only are they comfortable but they are always precise and known to last for years and just about take any abuse.

About all the professional or considered really good quake or even CS players I meet use standard kb and mouses. Only time you see them using "gaming" products is becuase of endorsements, where they have to promote their sponsers product. Some will even say they would rather not use it.

A mouse, or a keyboard will never make you better. Yes a disfuctional kb or mouse may hurt you, but just becuase it doesnt have or is advertised as a gaming product means it will be disfuctional.

A lot of ppl i meet online that use gaming mouses are always complaing about it skipping or messing up. They tell me it worked great for about 2-6months. But then it just start to fail. I have had my mouse for about a year and a half, and not one prob. Not to mention some ppl even still use their 3.0 back from 2000.

I understand not all gaming mouses fail, or saying you shouldnt buy them. Just that having one wont make you better in any possible way. At best you may get a placebo that you are better, and so it may seem your playing better. But in no way can hardware make you get more kills or instantly make you become better. Unlessyour using a wireless product of course, because I definitely know that, any wifi product will lag behind(maybe not by much as tech has got better) but still corded is always better for gaming.

Yes, a keyboard needs to be responsive, yes a mouse needs to be accurate and not skip. But I cannot stress enough that gaming products arent always the answer. It will come down to personal preference.

Skill also isnt rated by your hardware, but by how you play, your strats, and your ****of gameplay will generally reflect upon what hardware your using. E.G. Most high sens players are more up close fighters and use mouses like the dimond back, DA, G5, mx518, etc(high DPI mice). Low sens tend to be more +back and distance players, use mostly the 3.0, WMO, and 1.1(low dpi mice). Now obviously, this is not true in every case, just what I found to be common.

Also in no way is a low sens player better than a higher sens, or a high sens player better than a low. While you can argue that, they both have their pros and cons to equal them out enough where one is never dominant.

So, after blabbing for about 1hr, you can see that bob would have no disadvantage, and that "gaming" m/kb's are just that. More DPI isnt always better, softer keys isnt always better. Responsive keys are a must, but Ive seen many, many kb's that arent responsive. So cant argue that either.

keyboards i dont see a difference and a mouse i like razer just so that yopu feel comfertable...
