ok I recently built a new computer, benchmarked it at 12,470 3dmarks stock.

Overclocked my processor from 3ghz to 3.24 and got a 12700ish reading.

Next I overclock my Graphics card from 670/960mhz to 725/1100. and got a 12940ish reading.

Now all this was with 3dmark06 set to default and the nvidia control panel set to "let application decide settings"

I wake up this morning and let the computer run awhile. I decided to run 3dmark again and got a 13510 score, I didn't change or overclock anything else. How is that possible? BTW last night I ran each test twice and it was always very close to the above readings.

My specs are:

Gigabye DS3L mobo

E6850 dual core

2gigs of DDR2 800 ram

Geforce 8800gts 512mb

The reboot probably cleared some things up. Also heat build-up could have been a factor the day before from the overclocking. Before you shut your comp off tonight, benchmark again and see what you get.

Thats cool. Maybe your PC had to be restarted for some settings to take effect.

Do pcs really do things after you shut them down cause I use to just leave my pc on all the time buy my Dad sad that it should be shut down so that it can do the stuff it needs to do and so that is what I have been doing and what I have notice is that it cuts down on the dust and stuff it sucks into its self and means less cleaning that I have to do.

My Mom she never turns her pc off and it needs to be clean quite often and I was wondering between the 2 wich do you think is better to do. Leave on or turn off after each use.

I know people who never turn off there computers, but with my F-ed up 3yr old dinosaur, I have to turn it off when I'm done. If I don't- The internet goes off, a bunch of things pop up, It slows down...ALOT, and it could get hot.

Well its kinda like you needing to sleep. Same with computers, They need to be shut down to clear the ram out and give the harddrive a break.

Ok just wondering cause that question has been ask so many times to people that some say it doesn't matter while otheres say yes shut it down. So every night I shut mine down so that my room can cool down cause it gets really hot like during the day up over 80 degrees f and at night it cools off to around on average in to the mid 70s but it changes withthe weather cause at the moment I have had my windows open for all of the winter and part of the fall.

That is one great thing about living in FL. the weather is usually always great.

Just out of curiosity does the 9600gt get very warm or hot.

If you use Vista you should wait for some time after the start-up, cos Vista is reading some recently/or thing you use often into the ram cash, for better flow/faster access in vista.

(that's why the comp. may be slow and use CPU after a recently restart.)

-mean, if you run 3Dmark06 under the first minute or so you'll get a performance hit to your result.

-so if you did run the first when ram is filling up, your second test/benchmark would be better.

-Bad thing is that it could probably be the other way around if your comp. been left on for a long time.?

I'm not sure about all this but that's one "faaaaar out" explanation.

its good to turn off your computer when you are done beause it save electricity, it doesn't use up all of the life of the parts(they only last so long running), and it keeps it from getting lots of crap that could slow it down. basically if you have a fast computer turn it off when you are done because it boots up so fast.
