Alright earlier, I was on the internet, and I got a pop up, it told me to update my videoActive X (I later realized it mus have been from a specific website...) or something so I was like yea sure whatever, I'll get that over with so it doesn't bug me in the future, turns out it unleashed hell on my computer...spyware, malware, trojan etc. I have a number of new options to get rid of this problem but I haven't clicked any because I am almost certain all of those options are provided by the host/virus...Please help me...FYI I was not on any illegal/porn websites. I was searching pictures formybackground...

Worst comes to worst, you can always do a system restore, which is the process of restoring your system to the way it was at an earlier date. That should take care of any Virus, Spyware, etc. you may have installed/downloaded.

if its as bad as you say it is, just restore which should get rid of all the problems.

Yeah, all the porn you downloaded is going to disappear. (Just kidding.) But what ever happened since the last "System Checkpoint" is going bye bye. Read the article here on how to System Restore.

Wait, so if the checkpoint is after files that have been downloaded they won't be deleted?

Correct, but make sure it was before you got infected. If you put them on a disk you can keep them, of course.

Is there a way to set the checkpoint time or find out what it is so I know...as of right now...I might just lose everything on limewire....what are those things called where you plug them into the USB port and the have a few gigs of space? I need about 3 gigs for a specific program I most definitely do not want to lose. And again...I wasn't lookin up porn:lol:...I just fixed a desktop problem I was having a few days ago and I wanted to gather some pictures for my background...must have been a bad website.

.Yeah these type of problems can come from adverts on pages. I can go on a website fine, and then revisit it and get a popup similar to yours because of an advert. Just close it down in future. Yuo may be able to get rid of it by getting a few virus scanners and load up in safe mode, and scan using all of them. Ewido is quite a good one...

Apparently my latest checkpoint happened to be on the 11th. How can I be certain that it's completely gone? I want to purchase a cell phone online but I'm not sure if it's safe to do so...

D'oh! Try Hijackthis and go to a forum where people will know how to read the log. The best bet as always is reformatting.

Some viruses, spyware get into the system restore and reloads the stuff again no matter what date. This is what you do

1. disable system restore through control/system/system restore.

2. Scan your harddrive with a virus scanner and a spyware remover. Good free scanners are AVG virus scanner, found here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/ For a good freespyware remover is Ad-aware 2007,found here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ .

3. after the full scan on all hardriveswith both scanners and has removed all the stuff. restart the computer then rescan, and if nothing comes up and after you test it,you should be fine. then reable system restore.

I hope this helps you out.
