okay before i start, here are my specs.

Im running Windows 7 64 bit

Q6600 @3.0 ghz, ATI 5850, 4GB DDR2 800mhz Ram, 750w power supply, asus p5n32-e sli, and my Auzentech Prelude soundcard

now , ive stress tested all of my components with zero problems, i ran memtest and got 0 errors as well.

Okay, so i have a huge problem. BF:BC2 crashes extremely often for me. Let me sum this up, i used to have 2 different types of crashes occuring, one where it would crash to the desktop and it would say the display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered, and the second is when my entire computer freezes up with a sound loop and i have to manually reboot it to get it working again. Okay, so i believe i fixed the first problem by upgrading my video drivers to the ATI beta 10.3b. Now it just seems random when my computer freezes up in bfbc2, sometimes its after 10 minutes or other times 2 hours. im really frustrated and am wondering if any others are having the same problem as me and if they know a fix.

edit: forgot to mention that my temps are fine, and that this is the only game this happens in. i can play crysis for and hour and have no problems. in fact, i just finished mass effect 2, and had no crashes. so i believe it is the game that is causing this.

Does the freeze w/sound loop only happen in BC2? I'd try an older driver for the 5850 and see what happens.

Sounds like you've covered all your bases... only thing else I would try is a game directory defrag in case it's a hdd hiccup, and then make sure you are running the game as an admin. Sounds simple and fairly irrelevant but I've solved a few problems in other games by doing those, so you never know.

yes, it consistently happens in BC2. i can play other games for hours and stress test with zero problems. however, it sometimes does randomly happen like once a week when browsing the web or doing anything, but very rarely. however, i can never reproduce this, only in BC2 does this happen often.

This kind of problem is usually indicative of improperly installed drivers on a device on your computer. Go through all the devices that you have and make sure all of them have updated drivers (GPU, sound card, network card, motherboard chipset).

Its a buggy game with port issues like negative acceleration that makes mouse movement feel strange but its alot of fun to play so i deal with its issues and hope dice fixes them in the near future. The fix is to go into the bios and disable your onboard sound. If you don't have a dedicated soundcard you need to buy one or just get a cheap usb sound card as the game uses your cpu to process sound so it doesn't matter.

i have done that, and it has not helped. i do have a dedicated sound card with up to date drivers. im going to try installing my chipset drivers from the nvidia site instead of just using the ones that installed automatically with windows. i hope that helps

Turn off the onboard souncard drivers if you haven't done so yet, it helped me fix my problems. (Had to grab an external sound card too, so since you already have your Auzentech...)

Disabling Catalyst A.I. helped me with similar issues.

Also disable onborad sound card in BIOS as asphoRe suggested.

If that does not help, try with forcing DX9 via settings.ini in Documents/BFBC2 folder.
