Anyone else have this problem? I always seem to get really far into a game and I enjoy it but as soon as I start nearing the end I either say I'll beat it later or I start to lose interest then I just plain don't go back to it even though I'm right near the end, anyone else have a problem like this or am I just weird?

Not too often. If it's an RTS or some kind of not particularly involving story, I might do that. For RPGs and shooters I play them all the way through.

Always. Part of it comes from the fact that I am constantly buying games, but too many games today just can't hold my interest for their entirety.

I usually have a hard time getting started. Took me 4 tries and two months with AC2 and it turned out to be awesome.

When I was younger I would always play one game at a time no matter how hard it was to the end simple because I couldn't afford a lot of games now I'm terrible I constantly get near the end then switch to another game its a bad habit.

Maybe subconsciously you don't want the game to end, so you put it off to delay inevitable. You should go see a shrink.

It's always this time of year I mop up the games I've started but have not finished (unless I don't want to finish them). Resident Evil 5, Plants vs Zombies and Wolfenstein are the culprits this year. Finishing Resident Evil 5 now. 8)

Grah, that always happens to me. Then I'll find I have a handful of 80%-finished games and restrict myself to just finishing those over the course of a week. Helps keep the backlog in check ;).

Sometimes I do it too... I remember doing it for SNES with Zelda: A Link to the Past... I also deferred Farcry's ending for 2 years. Now, I still have to finish the ending of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Crysis, Half-Life 2 and Jade Empire.

I just get annoyed of games easily and put them down about half way through if there is something about it that makes it unplayable. A recent example is I LOVE the Longest Journey's story but those puzzles make me want to punch kittens (surprised that I don't like adventure games?).

Depends on a few things. I will finish the game if it is: 1. short or 2. Good story But if it is a crap story and or long and repetitive then not likely. For example oblivion I found to be terrible (same with fallout 3 but they are practically the same game). Though I never buy games that something of the sort would happen.

Darksiders...I'm about 10 hours in, and I don't feel all that compelled to reach the ending. The game isn't bad, but I just don't find the game all that interesting in general.

I'm the same way.. and it takes some mind control to get me to start up some games. It isn't a matter of being bored or running into an unplayable game. I can't explain it.

No worries.. I feel the same way although I actually finished it. I had to force myself, and I purchased it full price on day one. I purchased it on the PS3.. sold it the same week on eBay.

It's very rare I finish a game. The last game I sat down at and played from beginning to end was Mass Effect 2. But with Steam and their deals I buy games and never finish them.

I'm possibly necroing this, but this entire thread describes my habits as a gamer ;)

That said, Valve games are ones I have a habit of finishing despite knowing I don't want them to end, while games I want to see the ending of I can never bring myself to finish. I've played Valkyria Chronicles II for an odd 60 hours and still haven't got around to doing many of the December missions.

But then there are games that I just can't "finish", like Samurai Warriors Chronicles, where there's always the odd illusive stage that just can't be unlocked.

I used to do this. But for the past year and a half or so, I refuse to quit a game. Most of the time, even if I dislike the game, I will stick with it until I beat it.

what happens to me is,

I start a game, leave the game for months without finishing it and constantly replay games I've finished already.

I mainly play games for their multiplayer component these days.

It just feels like I've seen every possible storyline in the 17 years of gaming that I've done. Single player games just get way too boring now. There are exceptions though:

- KOTOR
- Portal

yeah,I almost finished Red Faction Guerrilla, first time I played this game,I thought it was cool, all the buildings can be totally destructed, and it's a gta kind game which is perfect for me because I'm big gta fan,but after while,i felt the missions were just repetitive, you are always smashing the building with your super axe,it'e really boring.

just this year i started having this issue. I got a bunch of slightly older games to see all the great titles i missed. While I really enjoy them all, I move with them VERY slowly. Titles include: Resident Evil 4, Assassins Creed 2, Dead Space, Borderlands, Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2, Metro 2033...I love em and I think I have too many on my plate :D

I'm in just about every category. "Almost finish" cateogry. "Almost-start." "Stuck in the middle." "Lost interest." "Don't want to finish the game because I don't want the awesome-ness to end" category. :P Yeah, I have issues.. so what?! I could be playing games I need to finish, but tonight, I fired up X3 Terran Conflict and I was having a blast...and then I found myself playing more Painkiller, lol.

I'm pretty sure a shrink could help us all. I don't finish most for most of the reasons given but I think the biggest is I don't want them to end. That said I do finish many games and like the endings so I guess that makes me crazy. At least I'm a happy nut.:)

Yes, I often almost finish games. ACII, Doom 3, Mass Effect 2, Mafia 2 just to name a few. No idea why I loose interest when there's just a few hours/minutes left of the game, but it tends to happen quite a lot.

This happened to me a lot... and well I consider it top be a waste of money. Last month I set out a new rule for me, I have to finish every game I start and I cant play other games until I finish the one I'm currently playing. Since then I've finished a couple of games that were sitting on my cabinet dusting up. I'm currently finishing Dead Space 2, after that I plan on retaking the Witcher in order to get ready for the sequel. After that I plan on buying Morrowind, finishing it, then finally complete Oblivion and by then Skyrim should be out :D
