What games, what settings, what resolution?

Which GTS do you have 320mb or 640mb?

What PSU do you have?

Have you checked your temps, both CPU and GPU?

You probably have a virus on your computer from downloading something, my advice get Avast Anti-Virus free home edition scan your computer clear your cookies and De-fragment your computer would probably help, Also you might have heating issues or hardware conflicting with eachother, Since i dont know what your exact specs are and what your doing on your computer i can't get an exact answer for your problem but try what i advised, because chances are it might work.

that is the problem today of 8800GTX.  Too much power may not support games.

its not too much power. ITs drivers from nVidia for Vista usually is the problem here. But Vista is causing major hardware problems right now and companies are having trouble releasing stable drivers bcause of it. Rumor is M$ might have to recall Vista. IF that happens, eveyone should sell there M$ stock right now :o

That is probably not the reason 8800's are not much different from other video cards other than they are DX10 compatible and a lot better than most, he probably has something wrong with his actual computer, virus or conflicting hardware.

Edit: 9mm also has a valid point the drivers from nVidia and vista are also reason's why he could have problems with his FPS.

Also, what Mobo are you using? because you could have a bad board or it could be conflicting with your hardware.

You should try a 3dmarks benchmark.

I recently had a similar problem. Half of the time my framerates dropped 50% in 3DMark 06, random boot-ups. Sometimes is worked great sometimes not. One common thing for when it did not work properly was that my screen flickered after post. My guess was that my 8800GTS did not get enough power. Turning the PSU off at the back and then boot up fixed it every time. I was ready to RMA my PSU, even though the 36 amp on the 12V rail is way over the recommended specs. Then I changed PCI voltage from auto to fixed, and same on the north bridge and that solved the problem. Works 100% all the time. I now beleive that my MB simply did not give enough power using the auto settings. Or maybe it's the 8800GTS that is really picky?
