Note-taking notebooks for school? Go to eBay and look up the HP 2730p and Lenovo X61t. There are more convertibles I can suggest, but those two are fairly inexpensive. (Just make sure that, if you get the 2730p, you make sure to get one with a SSD already installed, if you don't feel like spending at least $140 for an Intel X18-M 80 GB. The 1.8" hard drives are limited in capacity and especially speed to begin with. Also ask sellers for the monitor's hardware ID; if it begins with "BOE", GO FOR IT!) If you need something with more performance, neither will do (Intel GMA graphics), but I've decided that getting a separate notebook for gaming and 3D work would be far more practical, while keeping my note-taking system portable and with lots of battery life. There's also this Gateway E-295C I'm trying to sell, but the ATI HD 2300 isn't strong enough for modern games (especially not above 640x480 res), there's no MXM slot to replace it with something decent, and it's bulky and heavy enough that I wouldn't want to use it to take notes or draw away from a classroom desk. Its only saving graces are a low price and plenty of CPU performance.
