Y helo there sirs

So I will make long story short, basically > noobs play maplestory, I host a VM for them which they host their stupid maple story server, to which I get NON STOP messages which makes me want to slit my throat.

(They are computer illterate and like 13-16 year old noobs)

So basically one is a rich boy and is giving me ~250 dollars for a pc. Since I am not letting them remote desktop the virtual machine due to if some idiot puts a sniffer on it(It runs windows) my network can be comprimised. Not hot. (I put Linux on it and they were like OMG HOW DO I DO I RUN EXE FILES)

So me being awesome I said if they buy me a computer I will add another nic card to my router(pfsense) and put them on a different subnet, and set my firewall to isolate the traffic(they have no idea what the hell any of this means) I can isolate them from the rest of my network so they can access it 24/7

So then basically you people didn't have to read any of that. I picked some parts, what do you peoples think.

Oh and I am being a total ass hat(not blackhat :P), and going to use this pc as my untangle server and give them a p4 @ 2.0ghz with 1 gig of ram to use.

Oh for those who do not know what untangle is, it's just a bridge in your network that filters viruses, spyware, stuff like that. It can be a router except it sucks for that.

So here are the parts: http://3dslice.net/downloads/Newegg.pdf (Also add like 50$ to that, shipping and tax)

I am not up to date with all the latest desktop hardware, so that is why I ask you brilliant(or not so brilliant :P) peoples. I think it's hot. I was originally going with an e3200 intel cpu and going to oc to 3.8ghz, but I would need a heatsink and a good motherboard which is out of the rich kid's price range.

I am going to use this an untangle bridge, so for me. They get a crap p4 @ 2.0ghz. It will be more than enough for a simple mysql server + running maplestory(Maple story server requires mysql stupid huh?)

Oh ok then. Yeah I'd say its fine if it's going to be linux based.

Don't forget to check Craigslist. I found a guy selling several P4 dell's locally for $10 a piece. I would've picked up a couple, but someone ended up giving me a Pentium D for free. I wish now that I would've got them and made a little money, but ah well...

Agreed, everything looks good, especially for what you are using it for. I would be doing the same thing to those little *****. Maybe you should have some fun and see if you can remote into there comps while they are playing and screw with them a bit.

Depends on whether the software you're gonna use can make use of multicores. If not i'ld look for an ancient Athlon 64. I'ld be tempted to use a second hand laptop. I know this ain't ideal but if you're only using it as a firewall then you don't need great specs and the lower power consumption is always welcome when running a rig 24/7. Also why bother getting a disk drive for it? I'm sure you've got one laying around you could use for the installation.
