You got your moneys worth out of it. A GTX280 will blow that card away. You max out Crysis, Fallout3, GTA4, UT3, The Witcher, Far Cry 2, Call of Duty 4, etc at 1680x1050 with high frame rates? I doubt it.

1680x1050, and i already run all games at like 95% of max, i still see no real reason to upgrade, that 5% is unnoticable.. im gonna wait till atleast the next generation thatll come after 280, cuz right now there aint no point

He said 1680 x 1050 . To be honest I don't really see much games pushing the graphics anymore. Thats why I haven't seen a reason to upgrade my 8800 gts. I can play everything on medium or high so whats the point. graphics have slowed down big time.

I wouldnt upgrade if I were you either. To be honest, but a GTX260 is around $200 and its alot more powerfull than a 8800gtx.

The 8800 cards were a great long term investment if you bought around launch. I got my 8800GTS in January of '07 for around $330 after MIR, and still see no reason to upgrade any time in the near future. It was one of the better computer related purchases I've made.

The only other video cards I can think of with this kind of longevity were the Radeon 9700/9800 cards, which were also very revolutionary in their day.

true, but still, its wasteful to buy a whole new card for 5% better graphics, 8800gtx is good enough for anything i think.. even tho its just 200$, id prefer to keep that 200$ and wait for the next gen of cards ya know

I play at 1920x1200 and I can say my 8800GTX is starting to feel it, LOL. If money was no issue I would have upgraded a while back, but I think I gonna skip this generation of GPU's I should be ok on most games for a while I paid $600 for mine. At the time I felt like a moron, but it has turned out to be an actual good investment.

i have an 8800GT and i can play Crysis on mediumISH but since my 32" Monitor is only 1360x768 there is no reason to really upgrade soon for me either.

also i will probably not spend over $250 on a GPU simply because, i have the power to wait.

i have the same card. i bought it for about the same money 2 years ago. its one of the great cards but i have to admit it has really met its match (about bloody time too). not crysis though..my rig will max that out at 1280X1024 as long as i leave the AA and AF off. its GTA4. even at 1280X1024...the game just kills it. ive got it at med rendering and textures. i have draw distance at max, detail dinstance at about 50% and same for traffic. even then its struggeling..ill probably have to drop the draw dinstance and traffic levels a bit more. i think ill be getting a gtx 3 series geforce (or maybe the ati equivelent) for this PC before i retire it. maybe ill overclock the CPU a bit also..just for that bit of extra umph. ive decided not to go down the SLI route as was my origonal plan. instead ill use the GTX for cuda stuff. id imagine empire total war will also make absolute mince meat of the 8800GTX (and my rig...poor fluffy :S).

Ha! I was thinking the exact same thing a couple days ago, I'm amazed that my 8800GTX is still maxing out games even though it's two years old, my old X800XT was not able to do that after less then 2 years. I can max out all the games mentioned above and get ATLEAST 30fps at the same res, thats with AA/AF.

Is it just me, or does a GTX 280 fail at maxing those out too. Even 4870X2 is failing massively on games like gta 4.

Same here. I didn't have any problems running my games at 1680x1050, but once I got my 28" monitor, it doesn't run as well at 1920x1200. Most games still run fine, but there is a noticeable drop in framerates. The GTX series is a lot more powerful than the 8xxx series. It doesn't have any troubles running games at high res thanks to the added memory and bus size. They're beastly cards :D

That's because GTA:IV was built like crysis for future generation cards/cpus. Wait a generation or 2 of cards and you'll be able to max it out. Just like when everyone was complaining about crysis, now it's quite playable with today's video cards.

only reason gta4 needs future hardware is cuz its so poorely ported, runs fine on the coparably outdated xbox 360 hardware, xbox360 is like 3-4 generations behind current pc video cards, poor optimization is to blame, gta4 aint THAT advanced.

GTAIV can be already maxed, the problem with it is that most people have dual-cores and the game uses/needs three threads becuase of the euphoria engine.

Use a good intel quad or amd tri or quad, and you will be maxing it in no time.

I still have my old x1950pro. I can play most of modern games on medium/high settings, since my monitor only supports 1280x1024. I don't really see the reason to have the best GPU since most budget stuff will do the job. There are way too many people becoming graphics wh*res lol
