For games that need online activation, or are tied to an account, the ownership cannot be transferred, so you have been had, I'm afraid. You probably can't get your money back, either, so you now have a shiny coaster.
But just to address what someone else said, you can buy some used PC games, as long as you only want to play the Single Player campaign (and not multiplayer), but you also have to do a bit of homework first to make sure the game you want is not activated online or tied to an account. A lot of recent games do require online activation, but you will find that games released prior to 2005 are much less likely to have this requirement.
If you are buying any game second-hand for Multiplayer, then you will be out of luck, because the serial code will already have been used, and you will find yourself blocked. So if you want to play the Multiplayer portion of any PC game, I would advise you to buy that game new at retail.

No you can buy it retail, don't be so naive. You really think such a high chart game would be download only?

If you think about it that sucks, I buy used pc games all the time, most of them were 2 years old or so, have never ran into a problem with steam like that. Are they making it now where you cant buy used pc games as well? Why are pc games cheaper again? Unless I have to have it on release I always buy the used version on consoles, why not?

Well apart from it being against the rules (i think (to resell used games)) PC devs are just selfish and place DRM on anything and everything they can, anyway they can.

They've been making it for years, it's just that you were lucky, you either got the few games that worked or games that could go wrong only if the seller isn't a serious person. Consoles don't require registration, you put the disc in and play, PCs have different DRM, a serial nr., some have different additional protection software, etc, they're not like console games.[QUOTE="Advid-Gamer"]

We have a store called halfpriced books, they sell used pc games, I have bought re5, the witcher, oblivion, xmen orgins, prototype and grid from there with no problems, I guess i did get lucky. I dont think its is against the rules for them to sell, because it is a chain there are like 15 just here in austin and they all sell used pc games. I will be dissapointed ifIf cant get used pc games anymore, I got re5 for 13.00 :DWhat the hell is wrong with you people? "Serves you right?" If you bought it, and are done with it, why the hell shouldn't you be able to give it to someone else?JigglyWiggly_
This guy speaks the truth. It's not his fault devs are selfish sly companies. He obviously didn't know. Also don't you think you should point the blame at whoever sold him the game?
Happened to me with the original half life. Just don't buy used valve games. Saying not to buy used games period is pretty stupid, especially if you don't want to spend $50 for a new copy that is the same thing.i have just got a used call of duty 6 and i cant install it because steam wont allow me because the number of the game is used for another account so what should i do?????

PC games were never good to sell used because of ties to CD keys and online accounts. Consoles do not have this problem meaning you only have to worry about the condition of the disk.[QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"]What the hell is wrong with you people? "Serves you right?" Why would he get the blame? The TC is the one who is at fault here, he should have done a little research. Pointing your blame at other companys or "sly" sellers is wrong. He is at fault yes, but so is the seller, more so in my eyes. Selling on a game that is knowngly tied to his account while the buyer is blatently oblivious to the fact is just not a very nice thing to do. The buyer has lost money and gained nothing whilst the seller has gained money and lost absolutely nothing, he will never need that disc again.

Agreed, this, but it is also against terms of service, and end-user license agreement, to sell used pc games.
Though that being said. I don't care, they (most of them) have got enough of their profit, and I don't care that they want yet another G5 airplane in this certain shade of gray. If they put more of the money they make from games into future games instead of pocketing so much of it, the problems would start to minimise.
It is illegal to resell games in general, yes even console games and yes you got lucky those games fit in the "you got some of the few "safe" games" and " you got lucky because the seller is a serious person". Devs/publishers don't care enough to lurk the streets and filter everything but if they'd catch they're eye worse things will happen other than just going out of business.DanielDustits not illegal, gamestop makes all their money off used games. Heck pawnshops and craigs list are full of video games.
its not illegal, gamestop makes all their money off used games. Heck pawnshops and craigs list are full of video games. It is illegal period, it's not debatable. This is an American thing, and developers began to ignore their stupidity (the shop owners) so all they can do is accept it otherwise they could destroy the small American PC market by annoying some of the important game distributors. Look at the DICE and Bioware response to this problem.[QUOTE="DanielDust"]It is illegal to resell games in general, yes even console games and yes you got lucky those games fit in the "you got some of the few "safe" games" and " you got lucky because the seller is a serious person".
