Just got this new computer for a hell of a deal. It can run Crysis on low/medium at around 20 fps at 720p. Here is a screencap:

Im going to get a 9600 GT soon (within a month), so that brings my cost to $850 to run Crysis on high settings

That was a pretty nice deal, considering that is a $250 processor. I would get an 8800 gt. You can find them for under $200 now.

That's cool. I built a system for $600 (E8400, P35-DS3L, EVGA 8800GT), and I can run Crysis on High at 1440x900, my monitor's native resolution. So what are your specs?

Actually, that wasn't my intention. You got a pretty sweet deal considering you paid $650 and its pre-built. The only thing I would dislike about that system is not being able to overclock, but since you're new to PC gaming, that probably doesn't matter to you anyway. What you need to do is invest in a high-end graphics card.

OP: I gather from your signature that you're running Vista? If you revert to XP you'll certainly get more FPS. And besides, it's proven that Vista is the child of Satan. :D

what graphics card do you reccomend...i was thinking 9600 gt...but should i go with something else? I dont want to spend too much either

Its actually not too bad lol. Plus every game company is going to move to Vista eventually, so i might as well keep it

A 8600gt can't run crysis all high at 1280x1024 with 25fps. Prove it.

not in a million years.. video card is way to low, and depends on what kinda ram too, cuz their pretty vague, but im guessin its low level ram, so youd need better most likely.. cpu seems alright though, decent enough

i ran crysis on med-high, with 8800gtx/2gb top quality OCZ ram, 5200+ X2 AMD.. etc, and i got 40fps-50fps, so that will give u some idea as to what a whore crysis is, its needs more spec's than any other game ive played sofar

but with your rig, probably wouldnt even beable to paly on lowest setting, that vid card is like 30$ , and ram is probably bout the same, just not a gaming rig, thats all

That's how prebuilts work. They tell you your getting a great computer, but don't tell you the GPU sucks.

You didn't bring the topic of psu up DIRECTLY but you still kinda brought it up by just recommending a card like its no problem. The topic creator doesn't know that his powersupply might not be enough all he knows is that some user named el_carl recommend him a 8800gt and why would you recommend something if theres a possiblitity it won't meet the requirements that kinda being vague which you can't be with someone who doesn't know alot about this subject at hand

the computer has a 300W power supply, read the reviews, a user mentions it. another user put a 8800 gt OC in it with the stock psu, i wonder how its perforuming?

two users also put in 8800 cards in the pc but also upgraded the psu.

I've heard a few different things from different sources, but the most reliable minimum I could find was 350 watts and 24-28A on the +12v rail. That being said, another factor is whether the PSU is generic or not. If generic, I would definitely upgrade before risking an 8800 GT. There's really no excuse not to: you can get an MSI 450w PSU for less than $50.

will that power supply be future proof...so in the future if i want to upgrade my GPU again, will it be enough?

If you want future proof then you should talk about something higher 550~600 maybe. At that wattage, i dont bother my self looking to something else other than Corsair HX series. You might pay few bucks more than other good brands but Corsair still worth it for sure
