I am under the impression that ATI or nvidia isnt releasing their new cards in january I asked 1000 times on the forums I never got a striaght anwser and being that I really am not happy enough with my 8800GT I went ahead and decided I want to replace it now I am stuck because benchmarks say that ATI 4870 is better then GTX260 though others say GTX260 is better then 4870.

Heres the 2 cards I have my eye on

*EDITED*

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434

now which one should I get? I am going to play games at 1600x1200 resolution and I want some AA in there, I got crysis and no I dont want to upgrade for crysis though being that I can see that the 8800GT is showing its age I thought id upgrade for the sake of extra FPS. ALSO I am getting a quad core in feburary so my vid card will be a bottleneck.

In most games, the HD 4870 is faster. Some games under NVIDIA's The Way It's Meant To Be Played program (such as Crysis and World in Conflict) are faster on the GTX 260. I like NVIDIA more, though. Their CUDA stuff is pretty cool. But the HD 4870 is faster. Your choice.

I was thinking because the 256bit interface and 1gb of memory doesnt add up with me on the ATI 4870 I mean how does it have that much performance on a 256bit interface. I am guessing the 260 could only get better over time because of driver updates and the fact that it has a bit interface that can utilize all its vram though I am kinda likeing the gddr5 memory on ATI's new video card and here I am stricken between those 2 cards and still cant decide which one to get.

you are probibly right they might have a 6-7 fps diffrence in the games I plan to play, I might try the ATI because some part of me just HAS to try GDDR5 though I might miss out on the "Premium" treatment from NVIDIA I guess all in all if I end up wanteing to replace the video card again down the road I wont have any regrets.

I'd personally go with the Nvidia. I mean the frame rate is difference is so insignificant I'd just go with whatever company you think would be more reliable.. *cough* Nvidia *cough*

I just got the BFG GEFORCE GTX 260 OC MAXCORE 896MB (216 version) and so far I would have to say I love it. I had a tough choice deciding between it and the ATI 4870. But I went with Nvidia because the card I got was on sale and they dropped the price by $90.00. If I went to newegg instead of buying the card from a local store I could have got either the 260 or 4870 even cheaper if I didn't mind waiting a little while. I read so many reviews and it didn't make it any easier to chose. Pick either one and you will be happy I think.

Oh and btw, yo should consider the Sapphire and Asus HD4870 1GB's: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121291 I tend to overlook Powercolour as they're kind of 'meh'. Sapphire usually have excellent software bundles while the Asus 4870 1GB Dark Knight is highly recommended for its cooling and overclocking capacity.

Im thinking about buying this PSU. Is it overkill? I am not really gunna dual up the cards so is there a cheaper solution? I dont really want a non name brand PSU though in some cases I am willing to compromise.

Get either one both are great. To tell you the truth I could go find benchmarks to support either card in favour but many benchmarks are done at difference resolutions have different computers different drivers old ones new ones beta ones, different games etc.

Personally I would go for the GTX260 because I saw some favourable benchmarks for those.

eh I just want some more horsepower. Alot of people think that upgradeing for more FPS and better AA isnt worth the money but to me it is. ANYWAY I am not rich or anything though to me this is fun and I enjoy upgradeing.

700W is more than enough for a single card, but this one has a nice rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

Your other option is to wait it out for XFX's ATI cards in Q1 2009. But that's only if you have the patience.

I heard that the GameXStream has some 12V ripple issues, but it might have been fixed in the latest revisions. I personally have the 600W GameXStream and it's ok. It died on me once, though, so I had to get an RMA. I just heard a pop then all power went out. (I used the GameXStream on mostly 24/7 operation over the course of two years before it died).

Unless you are planning to Crossfire your 4870 in the future, a 750w PSU is just way too much.

Save a few bucks and get this 650w:

I guess ill go with the CORSAIR its a good brand so I know it wont fail on me. I DID want something that I could manage my cables easier but you cant always get what you want. there is exacally 10 days until I buy the video card so if no information about the new ATI's some out or even a release date then im just gunna get the 4870. I know how these things happen people say that this card is comeing out then 5 months later it actually does I just dont have patience like that.
