Ok so I wanna gloat. I can't help it.

I've built my own machines before and always kinda settled for what I could afford. was maybe a generation or so behind the latest and greatest. But I finally threw enough aside and went all out. What do you think of my new gaming rig? It's in the sig below.

You're right, I did.

But it wasn't that much actually, it was only like $3,200 with shipping.
Same setup for a prebuilt VelocityMicro or Falcon Northwest was like 5-7k, so it could have been worse, hah.

ya i heard that i7 extreme edition is a very big waste considering that 940 could OC to a speed similar to it. otherwise, it's a good system. Did you spend 3200 american? if so that's freaking expensive

Crypt_mx
Haven't installed it yet, but I'm working on it. SSD's install kinda slow, but read fast as hell. That's the most noticeable upgrade of everything I put in.

AzNs3nSaT1On
Yes, that's American. But to be honest it really was about average for everything I put in. And yes, I could have OCed a lower chip, but I felt like going all out. /Shrug.

If you had the money for all that is a great system and good choise of parts. But a system 20-30% slower would cost almost half of that. Also which icore7 is? is it the i7 920? I

that moster is wow.......

im thinking you should go for 4gb of ram is really enough for the next 3 years

and lower down on your power supply because you'll really need 1000w if your planing to use multiple GPU's at once.

remember that the economy sucks right now and can't spend too much money these days:cry:

Don;t let the haters get to you, just keep on playing Crysis. If you have the expendable income then go for it, if little Tommy has to lose a weeks worth of food to buy it, still go for it. That rig is absurd, in a good way, congrats.

Why should we compliment if we really feel it is a waste?

You do realize you could build a PC for a LOT less that would be ALMOST as good, right..

Is it a good PC, yes, it is great, but I am sorry, I cannot agree with WASTING money on an Intel extreme CPU. Vista Ultimate is a waste IMHO, Premium is just fine. Right now. I cannot agree with the purchase of any SSD drive, another waste.

Now this is just a personal feeling, but a dual card like the GTX295 will not be good for a long time, once the next big card comes out (if not before) Nvidia will drop the ball on the drivers and it will probably preform worse than a single card.

While you may disagree with my feelings, you cannot and will not change my view, like I said it is a great rig, but unless I won the lottery I would NEVER waste that much money. If he has the money to waste more power to him, but he asked us what we thought.

I am not "hating", I am voicing my opinion. And if you don't think an Intel Extreme Edition CPU is a waste of money then I feel sorry for you. I am not saying you or him do not have the right to be happy, and enjoy your rigs, but I will not blindly and ignorantly shout praise, when I strongly feel it is a waste of money. It is not like I said the PC was crap. But again I stress he was asking for OUR opinion. I gave my opinion, if that rubs you the wrong way tough.

Your not shouting blind praise.

That pc is fantastic, even if u think it was a waste of money.

But instead you could of said. " I wouldnt have got that cpu, but still a nice rig bro"

see, that makes it sound better, like he accomplished something yu know?

well it still a 3300$ worth pc : i recon it overpriced but : compare to BlackBird 02 / and all Pre-build such as : Alienware ALX Series It a good deal and the fact he could sucess to 4.1GHZ overclock with air is pretty good : would being a waste if he haven't overclock all he may need is a second 295GTX in future lol or he could sell is 295GTX for 70% to 95% of is cost on ebay in 2009 Q4 for a GTX 300 / 5870 As X58 Support Both in Crossfire / Sli and by then i heard it possible Lucid hydra 100's release : I praise him for is pc it PRetty good I'm sort of jealous :D

But not by much because in vast majority of game i'm Equal of is machine if i perfrom overclock of is same level ;)
http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=807&p=5
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2008/11/06/overclocking-intel-core-i7-920/6

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2009/01/26/intel-core-i7-memory-performance-review/9

Tough id like to know the Exact cost he paid for is thing :D
But just for morhterboard + cpu : it at last : 1450$ + video card : 450-550$ + all the rest.. if you stack up it near 3000$

Well At last he is really happy aint he ? he shouldn't fell that guilty if he have much money : but in future he should ask forum how to tweak a little more ;)
if i was him id how ever have wait for Core i7 975 that is replacing 965 * or Would went with 920 : then overclock at 4.0ghz : then buy a Westmere(gulfdown) that is + 6 Core Then core i7 Bloomfield (which is what he got)

Difference In bloomfield vs Westmere : bloomfield 4 Processor that is Physical + Each 2 Thread processor = 8 and is 45nm :
Westmere 6 Processor = Each processor : Two Thread processor = 12 and 32nm Shrink :D and consume less eletrictry as well
While Also Westmere(GulfTown) will have better ghz from stock : higher MT (multipliyer) so offering Better Overclock and better FPS in all of it Scale

either way he can sell is Extreme pc by then on ebay.com it will sell like hotbuns and get a new build with westmere good idea aint it ?
he will make lot of money from it specialy if he sell it at already overclock = people want to buy :D

how Ever you should make a blog post or something with ur pc : case and stuff nice picture for a something as a such a beast as you'r ;)
Because ur pc is so better then http://www.alienware.com/customize/alx-x58-desktop.aspx?SysCode=PC-ALX-X58&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT Either way !

So have great fun hope you use it lot and to it potential the most and worth ur cost to the most live long and game hard :P
instead of proposer or something or both :P

Thanks guys, Just got it all up and running finally, and I can only say it was worth it.

To those who say I wasted money, maybe maybe not. For the exact same parts I got, I got a good deal (Dell XPS is just stupidly overpriced, but Velocity Micro and Falcon Northwest were both in the high 5k range for the same parts). I could have bought cheaper stuff and hooked it up to get roughly 85-90% of what I have now, but I'm thankful enough to have disposable income to provide for my very expensive gaming habits. But hey, at least it's a legal habit! :P

To those who want pictures, I took some as it went together, I'm just working on transfering the photos and trying to figure out how to post 'em. I should have it tonight.

Nice. As far as pics go, it's easy enough to use something like photobucket or tinypic.com, places like that. Just copy/past the link in the "Insert/Edit Image" button in the message box, simple. ;)

Okay, got it up there.

That was it going together in all it's messy glory. The final pics are a cable mess, I know. I was building it at the time to make sure it all synced nice and got it up and running. Spent another 2 hours cleaning up cables and whatnot and closed the tower, but havent uploaded those pics yet. More to come.

As far as pricing, I can break it down for those who wondered. I shopped off newegg.com and got some decent package deals as I bought stuff together.

i7 Extreme Edition
Rampage II Extreme
Corsair Dominator RAM
G Skill SSD
GeForce GTX 295
Cooler Master HAF Case

That's the basics of what I got. Got a Cooler Master supply but that's nothing special. Also, I realize the 130 gig SSD is small, but I have plenty of space on my slave drive for music, movies, and whatnot. For my gaming habit, I keep my most recent few games on the SSD and fly along with them. Total cost was one shipment of $1,512.61 and a second of $1,694.65. Had to break it up cause my bank didn't want me to spend over $2,000 a day it seemed. But, there's the grand total of $3,207.26.
