For that price range, probably not... but it's 17inches and you have to take that into consideration.JigglyWiggly_You say that like it's a bad thing.

As far as I'm concerned, laptops are designed for mobility, so yes, to me as well that's a bad thing. Love my 14.1" 4.5lb baby.

Most people who choose to buy laptops do so because of their portability. And at 17", that's a big laptop to have to carry around.
But yeah, it's a nice laptop for the price.
What are you, 5'0"? I'm an average-sized guy, so carrying around something twice that size is no problem. I'll be carrying around books and such anyway...Corporate_ShadoDon't let us slow you down, go for it and find out for yourself ^_^ After 4 years of college carrying around a laptop everywhere, you'll learn to appreciate mobility if you plan on bringing it to all of your classes.

We shall see. I need to drop about 50 pounds anyway... (5'`0", 200 pounds... yep.)

$1,349.99
Nuff' said.
I wouldn't say the Asus G50vt-X1 is "better" than the Gateway FX, but for the cost ($899) the lower resolution isn't a very big deal. In fact, I think 1368 x 768 looks good on a 15" (just as 1440 x 900 looks fine on a 17"), with the added bonus of being able to play Crysis at native resolution. The built-in Asus overclock works great and they have good customer support. At $849, the G50Vt-X5 is a good bang-for-the-buck purchase too, but I'm not crazy about the P7450 or the purple and yellow front cover.
The most important thing to me in a gaming laptop is 1) decent amount of portability and 2) getting at least a 9800M GS graphics card. The 9800M GTS is better but not significantly moreso. Another added advantage is that the G50Vt-X1 weighs 7.2lbs, almost 2 pounds lighter.
Of course, if you have money to spend, and don't care about portability, the AllPowerful and M980NU are the way to go.

With a 10" screen (but more like 12" total with the huge bezel around it) and 4 pounds with keyboard on, 3.1 pounds with keyboard off, my HP TC1100 is one lovely little mobile machine that I can carry cradled in my arm all day. If I need more processing power, that's when I fire up Remote Desktop or StreamMyGame to tap into my desktop without actually having to sit down in front of it. (Mind you, remote access software still isn't perfect, but it's getting there as time marches on.)
its too heavy. i find my 15.4 inch laptop too heavy(6 pounds) when carrying books and other stuff in my backpack. if i buy another laptop its going to be no bigger than 14.1 since its reasonable for portability. but the specs are nice either way
This one in particular: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827#tabbed-customerreviews Yeah, and we're considering bang-for-buck here, so don't just post some $4000 Mac or something.Corporate_Shado
Last time I checked, there is no mac that cost 4000 dollars. And the fact that gateway discontinued that laptop along with the desktop counter part, I really don't see myself or anyone elese dumping over a grand on something that has been **** canned by the manufactuer. Atleast Apple stands by their computers and the argument that macs cost more than PCs is really getting old.

Lol at missing the clear hyperbole. Lol at claiming the FX has been discontinued. And LOL at whining about the Mac thing... just because it's old doesn't mean it's not true. Please Log In to post.
