I just recently got back into PC gaming after about 7 years and haven't had a chance to play any first person games except for Portal 2. I noticed that there was a free multiplayer download of COD:BO last night and decided to try it. I used to play Soldier of Fortune 2 and CS a lot back in the day and I was flabbergasted at how slow and clumsy the gunplay was in COD:BO compared to those games. The guns also felt very innacurate though the presentation seemed nice I guess. Are most FPS's like this now? I was really excited about playing BF3 after seeing some videos but I hope the gunplay is better than this.

CoD is the absolute worst example of a quality FPS, especially on PC

Yep, most popular FPSs are like that, except CSs and simulators.

Battlefield and CoD are pretty different. One focuses on working with your team while the other is more fast paced / lone wolf style gameplay. And a lot of people despise Black Ops / CoD in general, so you're not alone.

Go pre-order Red Orchestra 2, play the beta, and proceed to clean your now blown mind off the wall.

LOL, okay thanks. I just was so used to tap style gunplay and insane accuracy with weapons not to mention smooth movement that didn't feel slow or clunky. Also, thanks for the recommendation. How is the first RO and should I play it first?

Try right clicking to aim down the sites, that will solve your accuracy problem. This is weird to say but the gunplay in cod is more tactical then arcadey (when looking at older games).

No problem! I think the first RO is great, but with RO2 coming out in just over a week, I would say skip it and go straight to RO2.

Ahah do u mean recoil? Well since the late 90s, fps's commonly included recoil on the weapons, otherwise game would be too flat n even more simple, specially talkin about cod :P It's ridiculous that cod series cost more than other new mainstream games, at least 10 dollars more on pc, and that they keep that crazy price even after the release of the "new" or reskinned new installment, and inside a different box! I think that the extra cost is a tax u pay for being ripped on another cod lul

WTF. Did yall people suggesting RO even read the OP's post? He's saying the thought CoD BO was SLOW PACED and CLUNKY. For your information Xanadu CoD BO is one the the most fast paced, precise shooters on the market now. Most other shooters will feel even clunkier. RO is going to feel like your driving a tank compared to what your use to, and BF3 is even more clunky then CoD. Also please note when I say clunky I don't mean it as a bad thing, I just mean the game has a weighted feeling to it unlike the games the OP is use to. And if you've been away from PC gaming, CoD has kinda turned into the new cool game to hate on, it's still a very solid game but the yearly releases and gimmicks are getting a bit much for some.

No, CoD is console trash. Don't play that crap. I've played BF3 alpha, and it was awesome. CoD is the worst example of FPSs.

yeah I remember the free trial a month or two ago, it was pretty damn bad.

The singleplayer for CoD is pretty good, but short, and I really cannot justify paying over 25 dollars for a game like that.

It's shocking how many people don't read the OP.

And I have a really hard time thinking about any good FPS newer than 2004 the original poster may like... Quake 4, Prey and... that's about it?

Coming from someone who can't stand the newer style of FPS games don't bother with Red Orchestra, ARMA, Call of Duty, and Battlefield. You want to try something like Painkiller, Hard Reset (coming soon), Serious Sam 3 (coming soon) or Unreal Tournament 2004. You aren't really going to find an old school multiplayer FPS that is recent because thanks to Halo and then Call of Duty that type of game is pretty much dead.

I made a sarcastic post just above this, but I don't think this guy is joking. That's only a position certain fanboys hold who are in the same camp as noob tubers and quick scopers. People don't even compare the MW games to Treyarch's CoD spin-offs, it's more like MW1 vs MW2 vs MW3. Also MW2 is on IW engine 4.0, Black Ops is on a modified version of IW engine 3.0 which may explain why it has noticeable input lag(although not nearly as bad as Homefront or BFBC2).

The fact that MW2 handles very differently with much tighter controls and far better responsiveness is a massive difference, unless you've never played a game competitively in your entire life. It's for this same reason that a lot of MW fans refuse to play BF or Treyarch games, some people hate sticky/unresponsive controls.

Why? because they use a modified version of the same engine? Games look identical to those who don't know what they are talking about... ie, you.

morrowindnic

You must be blind and deaf, and lacking functional sensory registers. The games are completely different.

See how that works? I've yet to see one of you guys write go more than a sentence or two without invoking multiple logical fallacies. If you wish to debate about something, whether it be about politics, history, video games, or what have you, at least make the effort to learn basic logic if it is not so intuitive to you.

Also, just to reiterate what I mentioned above. Black Ops: IW Engine 3.0(modified); Modern Warfare 2: IW Engine 4.0. Most immediate difference any serious gamer should notice?: IW 4.0 has better controls and responsiveness.

For popular 'run and gun' shooters, yeah. What a joke.

Duke Nukem Forever and Wolfenstien (2009) are slightly less underwhelming, but still very bad when you consider how much they should've improved over the years.

They make the games easier so more people will buy it, in turn lowering the standard of the whole genre. It's amazing, but there are people out there who think that a game like CoD is too difficult. The ideal FPS would be like

but as I said, the standard has been lowered.

I agree, Black Ops had such an amateurish feel to it for me, felt more like they hired a bunch of modders to quickly slap a Cold War version of the game together rather than actually go through the effort of actually making a good game.

Black Ops isn't a PC FPS. It's multiplat and I'm sure it's a straight up port to PC. There are examples of PC FPS games but they might date back further than the most current FPS games out there. So yeah, I would never call any COD game a PC FPS.

Yeah, they're console ports although they play perfectly fine on the PC (KB+M). I never had any issues with the controls. Black Ops had its issues but I was one of those lucky ones that never experienced a single issue (i.e. performance issues, stuttering, etc). It ran butter smooth for me. The multiplayer for Black Ops got old for me fast. Hit prestige in a couple days and I stopped playing it ever since. I enjoyed COD4 the most.

Before I say anything, I have never played BOPS. So I will not judge it. When it comes to mp FPS's, I prefer a more strategy and less run and gun b.s.. That's why Arma and Red Orchestra series both standout above all the rest. Most fps players dislike these series because there slower paced and less action. I get burned out much quicker on BF and CoD games. To much unrealistic junk ( regen health, tanks being repaired in seconds by one guy, weapon inaccuracies, and so forth). Sure Arma and RO are not perfect, but they provide a much deeper experience and a lot more challenge!

SOF2 was the shooter that got me into multiplayer, missed the days when I played that.

[QUOTE="Elann2008"]Black Ops isn't a PC FPS. It's multiplat and I'm sure it's a straight up port to PC. There are examples of PC FPS games but they might date back further than the most current FPS games out there. So yeah, I would never call any COD game a PC FPS.FelipeInside
I never knew it was a port to PC. Does that go for MW Series too? I think they play fine with KB/MS and also the performance is pretty good (Blops has issues though)

They spent no time making it for PC, it was a straight up port, just like every CoD since CoD2

I played the trial for about an hour and uninstalled the damn thing off my PC without thinking twice. If I had a gun to my head, I'd rather play Unreal Tournament 2004 than this crap. At least that one had an element of strategy in it.

That's what's called a good knowledge of the map, which includes a knowledge of all of the spawn points on a map.

I was really excited about playing BF3 after seeing some videos but I hope the gunplay is better than this.

it's called "stagnation of gaming", post modernism in gaming and is actually from around the exact time you quit PC gaming

[QUOTE="GazaAli"]MW was fun, MW2 was cliche but still good, but BO was absolute garbage. Everything about this game is garbage, the graphics, the gunplay, the stupid story, everything.koospetoors
I agree, Black Ops had such an amateurish feel to it for me, felt more like they hired a bunch of modders to quickly slap a Cold War version of the game together rather than actually go through the effort of actually making a good game.

It's Treyarch and their silly COD spin offs, it's disgusting that Activision lets these guys piggy back off IW.

I haven't seen anything new, progressive or innovative in gaming since 2003, that's just how the story goes

So you would judge a game just because some people don't like it? The trial is FREE so judge it for yourself.
