What are the specs on the new rig? And yes, it's a rather good feeling when you put a machine together - even after building several myself I still feel good booting into Windows for the first time on a new machine and seeing how clean it all is.

Money is earned to be spent, not saved up to support your life after you become too senile to not wet the bed.

You shouldn't need that much money unless you do what I did, and build it from the ground up (monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc.) You can build a more than decent machine for $1400, and if you wait a month for Intel to cut prices, Nvidia to release mid-range cards, and ATI to fire back into the DX10 fray, that $1400 budget will likely net you a machine that will put you into the top 5% of PC users in the world.

The internet is abuzz with rumours about Intel slashing prices on April 22nd - and considering that they're releasing quite a few new processors then, that makes more than a little sense. A good budget builder might want to keep his eyes on the E6420, which will sport the same cache as the E6600, but will cost the same as an E6400 processor at the same clock speed.

I was born in Japan, but that figure is in American dollars due to my current location, yes. £50,000 a year would be a very impressive job indeed, and if I made that much, I highly doubt I'd still have an X1900XT - or more realistically, I doubt I'd be driving an Accord, even if it is a V6.

I decided it wasn't worth 90 bucks (E6600) to wait for another month, and I just ordered my custom built PC ;) (See sig). The comp I'm using now is almost entirely my creation, as I installed the mobo, cpu, ram, vid card w/arctic silencer, psu, etc...the only things I kept in there were te drives, hdd, and roxor HP MicroATX case, lol. But yeah, one does feel a good bit of accomplishment to know that they got a comp working and did it all by themselves...but I also feel great knowing I'm letting them do all the work for my new rig ;) I'll let them deal with driver/hardware issues, as I'm going for Vista :) Happy gaming!

I wouldn't know since I'm on the other end of the spectrum. On Friday I got all the parts, spent 4 hours putting it together, and...no POST. :( Right now I'm feeling pretty crappy, since if I can't get it running I'm out a bunch of cash. Hopefully the new RAM that's on it's way will fix my problem... :S

Careful though...an unintended side-effect of this usually makes your friends come to you if they ever need help with computer problems, which in turn may lead to more computer building.

Whether or not that's a good thing, we'll you'll probably decide for yourself soon enough :PÂ
