It has already been charged to my plastic, but I was thinking about adding a heatsink. But my question is, if use the stock HSF for the i7, then later down the road want to add a better one, do I have to take out the mobo and everything to do it? And what should I get if I decide to get one. Looking at this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

do I need to buy a mounting bracket for that one or the mounting bracket 1366 standard.

and if I have to purchase a mounting bracket what should I get.

and also. might be a little to late to be asking this but what about the hard drive. one user comments that vista 64 does not recognize it as the primary drive. is that just him?

One quick question, you have 2 psu listed, rosewill and a corsair, if you do have that rosewill watch out for it, I bought one before I went with corsair and the minute I turned it on it smoked.. With the Western digital drives, I do not have that particular one, I have a 1tb and a 320gb and vista recognizes them both

you get one free psu with the purchase of the CM 690.

BUT I NEED AN ASNWER TO THIS QUESTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

I need to buy a HSF. I am looking at the Vigor Moonson or the CM V8.

which is better.

no matter which one I get I have to remove the side panel fan on the 690. will that affect the core temp, and the temp of other components such as my gpu (285). does it even matter that I have to remove it?

I have the CM V8 and it is huge, the pictures of it do not really show how large it is, make sure you have enough clearance with everything on a mid tower case they are normally about 8" wide and the CM V8 is only about 1/2 inch from touching the side panel but my cpu temp under full load never goes about about 29c

Sorry I didnt see on newegg where it offered the free psu with the case so I assumed that you where purchasing 2 of them. my mistake

OH yeah. IT definitely works with i7. I was just saying that I'm pretty sure it comes with the bracket. But with the regular hd s-1283 you have to buy it seperately.

so the regular one that does not come with the brackets is the black one.

the one that does come with the 1366 bracket is the silver one that only 5 people have bought?

and would I have to take off the side vent fan on my CM 690 to fit this.

if i have to, will that affect anything?

I'm not sure if you have to take out the side vent for it to work but yes the dark knight 1336 socket hsf ( the one with 5 reviews) comes with everything you need and is a very good cooler it says in the review( right behind the thermalight true which is very good but more expensive

I would assume that the v8 would be slightly better because it's more expensive but honestly I have no idea and I can't find any benchmarks that compare the two. It also looks like you have to buy the bracket separately with the v8 but idk

the first thing you want to look for when buying a heatsink is to find out what its made out of. for example silver, and copper are your top dogs as far as transfering heat. however, these also happen to be more expensive metals.

and i personally like to see a nice chunk of metal for a base, not a thin cracker with hollow "heat pipes" coming out of it. i dunno maybe they are better but they sure as hell look cheaper and less heat conductive to me

Dark Knight is the obvious choice. TRUE-like performance, not oversize like the V8/V10 heatsink. $39.99 is a steal!

I know you already bought the Dark Knight, but incase anyone else who reads this thread also is looking at the CM V8 it comes with the brackets for the i7, before I bought my V8 I searched extensivly between the TRUE and the V8 and almost every benchmark put them within a degree of each other so it basicly came down to personal taste..

If you look at benchmarks you'll see the differences are only a few degrees, really it's about price and if you like how the heatsink looks. I would have waited for i5 but nice rig.

Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme. I bought that way back when it was first introduced @ $69.99 and is compatible with i7 thanks to new pins. But if I must buy a new heatsink, Dark Knight is the obvious choice.

It's possible. I'm running GTX 280 at stocks and it'll probably use up 300-340w at full load. That's with a Corsair PSU though.

Not quite sure all mobo's come with the cables, but mine came with 4 SATA cables. They usually come with some cables to start with and other items needed to get ya going.

I bought a HDD retail before and it came with a SATA cable. Was even blue, nice addition to my case. ;)

Manibou

From the looks of the last picture about that mobo, it shows plenty of SATA cables. Usually just needed for Hard Drives and CD/DVD/Burner drives. External and Internal. I'm guessing you'll be ok. 8)
