I was completely lost on all the hype, other than the game looking very pretty. I never liked Farcry, and although this game seemed to have some cool elements, the focus and hype was usually associated with how awesome it looks. I eventually tried the demo, but it didn't run well on my system at ALL and I heard there was a problem with SLI compatibility (I had two 7800 GT's) so the game was running very poorly on low settings, and I messed around with the demo for 10 minutes but it really didn't seem interesting, kind of cheesy, so I just stopped and never bothered playing again.

Well I purchased a 9600 GT yesterday and decided to give the Crysis demo a shot, just to see what it looks like, and when the game actually runs well it is a BLAST to play. I finished the demo and was left wanting more. The overall atmosphere of the game is awesome, and all the effects and the way the enemies work together makes firefights REALLY intense. And of course the abilities can completely change your style of play. What I like doing is cloak or speed to keep changing my position, pop an enemy, then change position again, otherwise they just keep laying waste to your hiding spot throwing grenades to fish you out. It's great.

Also I thought the game looked good on medium, but then I turned it up to HIGH and I was completely blown away visually. It looks incredible. I adjusted the physics and post-processing effects to medium, and also overclocked my X2 3800+ from 2.0 Ghz to 2.8 GHz and now it runs very well on high, I'm very happy. If I were to guess I'd say it's around 30-40 fps with some dips to 20-25 or a bit less.

Picked it up on the way home, and as an added bonus the Special Edition was the same price as the regular box Anyway, as if the PC gamer world needed yet ANOTHER one, I am now an official Crysis fanboy.

There really isnt much to "get".

Its a cryengine2 tech demo with an average Shooter as the means of display. Dont get me wrong, i liked it but i have to admit that it was mostly because of how good it looked. You dont really pay attention to the flaws when all you care about is seeing the next badass looking part of the game.

Yeah I still have them, I just swapped them out last night. EVGA 7800 GT CO, copper heatsink and overclocked from the factory. They were good when I bought them, hehe.

I was just wondering, I have a BFG 7800GT. I'm planning on taking it out of the prebuilt comp and using it in a lan pc build in the near future, should be sufficient for older games.

Yea it's great, the suit makes you like a superman fighting mere mortals, sweet............up until it gets lame with the alien levels and becomes a regular old sci-fi shooter.

The people who think Crysis is too boring should try playing it on the higher difficulty levels. Playing the game on Delta is much more satisfying than Normal or Hard. The enemies actually speak Korean instead of retarded broken Engish, the bad guys aren't highlighted red when they are alerted, no crosshairs, no grenade indicator, and much more realistic damage. It really makes you have to plan your attacks more carefully, but since your health eventually recharges, it is nowhere near the frustration level of Far Cry on Realistic.

I don't really think the game is hard, that' an issue with Crysis I think. I felt delta like "medium". I guess I'm too good at FPS :P

Exactly. It's an excellent shooter in addition to being a great piece of eye candy.

How anyone can call a game with such great AI, open-ended level design, and cool special abilities "just average" is beyond me.

Really, what's with all the Crysis haters? I think it's one of the best single player shooters I've ever played, and I've played them all.

I think that's why once I started playing it I realized how much I liked it. There are many different ways to handle a situation, and the game is open-ended enough to let you do all sorts of different things using the environment and how you can interact with it. I can see why people who come to the game and just go around shooting stuff and then taking cover and then shooting more stuff will see it like an average shooter, but if you play more with everything around you the rewards are a much more fun game :)

Wow you overclocked your 3800 pretty high there, what cooler do you have?

Penguin_dragon

To be honest I forgot what it was. It's a Thermaltake, probably a Big Typhoon. It was my second overclock attempt of the evening, the first one kinda froze up the PC but I think it was actually related to Speedfan more than anything. I haven't crashed with it yet, I even bumped the VCore down. So I still have some tweaking room left, hopefully 2.9 or 3.0 is on the way ;) They're better overclockers than I thought. I left it at stock for the longest time since nothing was really taxing my system anyway.

I really like the game and think it looks great although it doesn't run very good. I also think the delta difficuty is pretty easy, I beat the game on normal and then went to delta and hardly notice a difference. I obviously notice the korean and I take things a little slower, but its pretty much the same when you can cloak, shoot, cloak... repeat :)

fun game, but not the best.

Not really, on Delta the game is just as hard as on hard: The missing grenade indicator didn't bother me, as I never paid attention to it anyway (Grenades never hit where I was anyway, as I was moving all the time) The missing crosshair didn't change anything either, as I could hit just as well without it as with it. It was just annoying not to have it. There was no positive sides in not having it (game didn't get any more difficult), while it was annoying I didn't notice any difference in realism in damage The language is something I missed when playing on hard though, I didn't like them speaking English

No but tony hawk has scored a 10 which is enough reason to overlook their reviews entirely.

Stick C4 on a barrel or crate and throw them at NK soldiers, tanks, huts, guard towers ect.

Surprisingly effective.

Or rig an entire house with C4 and lure soldiers inside - sneaking out as they surrounding the building - advancing. Then watch the fireworks.

Delta was really easy for me until near the end during the alien levels. I'm a stealth player so I tried to avoid open gunfights as much as possible and just stuck to using tac ammo and cloaking everywhere. Mind you, playing like this takes 3 times as long. :P

I didn't know that was what Delta was all about, I think maybe I'll start the game on that difficulty level. Sounds interesting! I heard the AI scales pretty well with difficulty level as well. I don't mind a hard game as long as it's interesting ;)

I started playing stealthy style, but found sneaking into a base - then just going completely rambo was awesome fun. The firefights are some of the best in any game.

no, "get" is the right word as it signifies understanding.

if "got" was used then most people would overlook this forum as someone simply stating they purchased, i.e. "got", Crysis instead of a thread about someone coming to a realization.

According to Gamespot, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was the best skating game to come out at that time. Just because it scored a 10 back then doesn't mean that score is viable by today's standards. It was one of the best games available at the time. Crysis score a 9.5 meaning it was among the best shooters at its time. Not only that but hardly any shooters on PC score over 9.0 anymore.

I've heard just the demo level alone actually has a lot of possibilities.Srinivassa

I've only played the demo of the game and played it for at least 15 hours when it came out. I played the level as a run-n-gun, getting pretty much destroyed at every turn. I played it as a tactical shooter, taking guys out from a distance and then retreating back into the bushes. And most gloatingly I played as a master of stealth on Delta, going through the entire level and completing all the objectives without killing a single enemy (or even knocking them out) or alerting them to my presence.

Then went on to download modded levels and play around with various vehicles and weapons.

Man... I really need to get a new rig and play the full game.

Yeah, I was quite surprised. I honestly bought the card so I could play TF2 a little better, and Left 4 Dead when it comes out eventually, I hadn't expected it to work well with Crysis. My res is 1280*1024, no AA, high everything except physics and post processing effects.

I'm still tweaking it, and this was just the demo. The release patches are supposed to make the game run even better, so I'm going to try one of those ultra-high configs for the hell of it ;)

Yeah, I didn't ever see what was so special about this game. It doesn't really look good on paper. It just looks like a pretty shooter. I keep hearing good things though to where I'll have to at least get the demo. I finally have a system that can handle it, and I've heard just the demo level alone actually has a lot of possibilities.Srinivassa

Definitely download the demo and just play around with it, not necessarily working to complete the missions, but kinda.. just have fun. As soon as I started doing that I understood the game much better.

Not a lot of "average shooters" have scored 9.5 on Gamespot.

Halo 3?

Indeed. Pretty much the only competition Halo 3 had when released in terms of shooters on the 360 was Gears of War.

On PC, Crysis has to go up against everything from the original Doom, through Deus Ex, System Shock 2 to Half Life 2, etc and be rated based on what they have given the platform.

Crysis is all about creativity, if you don't have it, don't bother.

Glad that you liked the game.

JP_Russell

lol wut?

Poetry is all about creativity. Crysis is all about lining up a headshot.

No, he's right, it is about creativity and imagination. If that's what you think it's about, then you're missing out on a greater experience of the game.

lol, you're kidding right? Choosing between sneaking and shooting, and sneaking in through a front gate or side gate, or throwing a grenade or stick of C4, does not constitute a considerable effort in creativity/imagination. That's just part of the game, and it doesn't even compare to the degree of freedom (or as you seem to call it, "creativity and imagination") allowed in RTS games, let alone activities that require actual creativity.

Stop trying to pimp Crysis as some kind of breakthrough in creative gameplay.

Then GTA falls into the same categoty as Crysis - even though it was so highly vaunted for its 'choices' in approaching missions and sandbox nature.

Your second sentence proves to me you have no understanding of the creativity and imagination allowed by the game. First, there are far more ways to play than "sneaking and shooting." Second, "sneaking" and "shooting" individually in this game apply to many more different ways to play than in most other games (that is, they're too broad; there are many different ways you can play that could be called shooting and many ways that could be called sneaking). Third, the examples you give are in no way examples of how you can be creative in the game. Things like, for instance, shooting an explosive barrel, grabbing it, and tossing it at an enemy patrolboat near the shore before it blows, that's creative. Shooting a palm tree near a soldier and having it land on top of him (granted, there's a degree of randomness to it, but it can be done), that's creative. And both of those are very basic examples of creativity in the game.
