Ebay it then, you'd probably only lose ~$60 if you didn't overpay for it. That isn't much compared to the $500-600+ you're looking at for the high-end nvidia card.

They won't get out in novemberCrysis 2?i7 + 5870 = maxed out games until 2012.
Don't worry about it, games won't be touching your card for a few years.

Considering the latest trends that nVidia has been taking with their cards' pricing, I won't be surprised that their new series would be ridiculously overpriced for what they truly offer in terms of performance. Also, consider the fact that they're trying to add a new technology to 'streamline' the cpu processes through their cards as well, which will only lead to even steeper price points. Knowing that the pc gaming market hasn't even been fully optimized for multi-core processors, I personally think that the high price you pay would long be considered redundant for when you actually reap the rewards.

From what I've seen so far, I'd be surprised if Crysis 2 requires more than the original Crysis.

Crysis 2 will have a whole new graphics engine that even my 512mb4870 will prolly have trouble running at high specs. Crysis 2 will be my reason for upgrading to a 5850. I'm a high spec kinda guy lol

A "whole new engine" doesn't mean it'll require more. The engine will also be running on the PS3 and Xbox360; I seriously doubt they'll develop 3 engines to meet the specific needs of all three platforms.

PS3s and 360s dont have the option to change graphic qualities. We all know computers do have that option and it's going to look alot better on a PC, and the better looking you want it to be the more you need and I want at least high settings with DX11

Eh? Oh i didnt read the whole page sorry there :)I dont expect Crysis 2 to be the GPU destroying game as its predecessor was. Sorry, but when you make multiplat games, its tough to squeeze the best graphics out. Yeah its gonna run at 1080P, and beyond, but i think most decent rigs will have no trouble maxing it out. I have read that Crytek made the engine very scalable so they can get the best possible performance out of each version, but i have my doubts till i actually get to play it.
They also said Crysis runs on high on a x1900xtx... Yeah... right :P It did run on high though, I had one, at 1024.768 :(I dont expect Crysis 2 to be the GPU destroying game as its predecessor was. Man i got that beat im running Crysis on a http://www.amazon.com/3dfx-Voodoo3-2000-16MB-Video/dp/B00000JDKT, at 2500x1600, but my house burned down shortly after, but it still counts.
buying any DX11 card right now is a mistake. wait a year and buy one then.rock_solid

Always best to wait, read reviews etc. Never pre-order something that is untested in the big wide world.
I'm really sorry to say that yes, I think it was a mistake buying this. However, if the new NVidia cards don't measure up, it will have been a small(er) mistake... Here's hoping eh? :)

Best to wait? then why don't you just keep waiting because theres always something better a few months away.Oh, I thought it was clear I was saying best to wait until reviews and tests have been posted to judge which card to buy, but it appears you misunderstood? You see, test results/reviews are limited at the moment because neither the HD5000 range or the GTX300 range have been released. Obviously it is not best to wait if you know which card is the best performing/best value for money, have made a decision and are in the market for a new card but the OP in this case has pre-ordered an unreleased, untested and under-reviewed card. This was my point and also the reason that rock_solid recommends waiting a year. See??
EDIT: I was wrong, there are some HD5000 range cards out now but they have only just been released. There is still limited testing, reviews etc. and of course, we still can't compare them to the GTX 300 range which HASN't been released. My advice is still applicable - wait until we have a solid comparison before buying! - sting0109

Except I believe I heard that the new GTX300 series won't even be on the shelves until Jan '10, that is some time, and all that would do would be to lower the 5000 series even lower in my book (because they will want to make the 5000 series much more appealing in terms of price) and they will still be good enough for the next years games and save money. That is of course my opinion and prediction.Quoted for truth. umm no.[QUOTE="Koawinter"][QUOTE="Human-after-all"] Best to wait? then why don't you just keep waiting because theres always something better a few months away.rock_solid

Yep, I have played the waiting game before and it doesn't always pay off, it's a 50/50 situation.
Now if the GTX300 cards are far superior it could pay off, if not, then you've wasted a few months of hot gaming and serious bragging rights! Price is also a factor as you have correctly noted. Only the individual can make the right decision for themselves.

Truly forum etiquette in your response. Thanks. And again truth in your response, it comes down to decision and waiting. You can't be serious...that HD5870 can max any game out from now until god knows when. Last I checked there really aint no games coming out soon that'll need a card like that anyways just because most games that are being released on the PC are pretty much ported from the consoles. So you second thinking your purchase is ridiculous. But I will say, you'll miss out on the Physx that seem to be implemented in more and more newer games that are being released..and that's an Nvidia card exclusive.I just pucrchased an core I7, HD5870 pc. Why do I have a feeling that Gtx380 will be 2x faster than HD5870? I should have waited for Gt300

Wouldn't this mean you should buy HD4870 this year since you have waited a year from last year? yeah u play the waiting game and you will never buy anything PC in constantly getting new technology every year so there will always be something new coming out around the corner. Please Log In to post.
