Once again steam is being annoying and refusing to work.

I get this "Steam has found a problem with your local game files" and won't start TF2.

I'm not sure how to fix this.. anyone got any solutions?

I hate steam so bad, I wish TF2 didn't needed steam to run. It also gives you ads everytime you stop playing, it's really really annoying.

I don't buy games from steam anymore because steam is a piece of junk. This is not the first time its been acting up.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Tried verifying the game files?

Right click on TF2, go to Local Files and click "Verify integrity of game cache..."

I don't use it...cause I don't have a huge download quota, or super fast speed...and I like retail boxes. (and the whole my account got hacked) But I see it IS a great thing for others....

Steam is a great system, you should try what was suggest above. Hopefully, someday it gets rights to all PC games except maybe MMOs so that if someone decides to hack they get banned from every video game they own within the steam network. There should be no tolerance to hacking to be able to deter it because it is the reason why pc gaming fails and why i converted to consoles for anything non MMO.

Go to your steamapps folder and move or delete this file. http://www.wegame.com/view/file_to_delete/ "It also gives you ads everytime you stop playing, it's really really annoying." Steam has an option to disable this. "I wish TF2 didn't needed steam to run" Steam is the reason why persistent unlocks and achievements work. Without it, the situation would be like with Call of Duty 4 where if you delete the game, you lose your entire profile and you have to start back at level 1.

We don't want that....we don't want a monopoly of one company controlling everything. I do agree with the banning part though...

Verify your game files or reinstall. Don't make a topic about your failures or your inability to troubleshoot like normal people.

Some people who are having this particular problem caused by the latest patch aren't having luck with that. More people are fixing it by deleting the multiplayer ob binaries file.

You do realize that if Steam goes down under, they are under no obligation to not screw you over right? The only thing I like about Steam is the sensible DRM scheme and VAC2, which is kind of ridiculous. It just shows that the big publishers dropped the ball so badly on DRM that I'm willing to put up with a CPU cycle and bandwidth guzzler just to not put up with their junk.

Thank you, I'm relatively new to steam but in the time I've had it its just been a pain. Thank you for showing me this, TF2 is working again now.. Also thanks for being one of the few who actually tried to help.. I think better of steam now. Thanks again ! :)

Steam sucks but if you say anything against it you get attacked by fools and fan boys. Look at what Blade said to a member. Proves my point. So, I sent a moderation in on him for insulting others. Gotta love those who talk big on a computer forum. I hope he enjoys his reduction in Status :)

Boycott steam and games that require steam. Just about every game going on the market is becoming an online registration BS scam for market research and antipirating. I say steam encourages people to pirate games because they work and are user friendly. I do not have high speed and i use my schools computer to surf the net but my PC at home has all my games and because of steam it makes it so much more difficult without high speed, and even if i had high speed i would never use steam anyways. Steam makes people wanna pirate games i mean common i pay top dollar for a game that doesn't work is buggy and now i need steam which is even worse than the game, why pay for something thats a headache when you can get it for nothing and to top that nonsteam. So yeah i say anything requiring online registration don't "buy" it when there are alternatives. [ do not bump old threads - moderator ]

Like common guys games that work without steam that are potentially bug free and working and allot of fun without the hassle of steam and best of all FREE like you'd have to be a complete moron just F-in stupid to want that. i mean games that are hard to install require hours of BS just to play and cost a fortune thats what we all want right, fu$% yeah!, fu^# everyone who wants it more user friendly games at cheaper prices they're just losers and chumps!

Considering how easy it is to crack Steam games, I don't even know why they bother with encrypting the files, and requiring you to use Steam in order to run the games and all. Steam works pretty well for Valve titles, but other games, not made by valve, are incredibly easy to crack, so they're being pirated just as much as those retail games that come with Securom and what not. I personally think that digital distribution should be done in no other way than the way GOG does it; 100% DRM free, just like the music on Amazon. Copy protection is nothing more than a joke to the pirates, and a complete pain in the ass to the legitimate customer. **** DRM!

Steam is awesome. I've never bought anything off it (all my games are retail) but its functionality is great (especially the friends network and the community pages).

Steam is the greatest thing to happen to pc gaming, where i live they dont sell much pc games and if they do its WOW. Also the deals on steam are incredible. I have never had a problem with Steam in the two years I have been using it, also I just loaded up TF2 and it works fine your problems are your own.

Steam is the best form of DRM short of no DRM at all, and it while it has it's problems, it is the best DD service out there.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Steam is saving PC gaming and the deal's they have are support the smaller dev teams as well as the big. Take the game 'Trine' I never would have bought it from the store. I got it on a Steam deal and it blew me away, so am defo getting it's sequel. Long live Steam!!

I agree 100%! Anyone who thinks that the Steam client & the encryption the service uses is stopping piracy is naive at best. The torrent sites are full of pirated Steam releases. The only way in which Steam stops (some!!) of the piracy is by having those awesome sales of theirs. Other than that, their weak POS DRM is just as inefficient at stopping piracy as the rest of the bullcrap DRM out there.

I agree that the GOG model is the best for DD and it should become the norm. It's the only one that truly offers the customer full control over what he purchased, without hassle of ANY form of DRM (including on-line activations, constant connection or other such bs) . I hope the service becomes more popular and they can grow over the years

I love Steam in the aspect of organized gaming. You have your games linked to one account and one account only. But yeah I had my share of server crashes and lost connections with Steam and it really really angered me. It used to happen everyday, then it forwarded to once or twice within a week period. I don't like buying games digitally but I like Steam for its organization and ease of use.

steam isnt to stop piracy, its purpose is to kill 2nd hand sales. Any game you buy with steam works cant be resold. I had a few steam games I would have thrown on ebay if I could have like MW2 and Fear2 (when they were new and I could have got a reasonable sum)..

for those having issues with steam, delete everything from your steam folder except for steam.exe and the steamapps folder and relaunch steam. it'll reinstall the steam files. this solves the majority of issues you'll come across.

Wow, lot of crybabies in here. "Wahhh I don't have broadband, so steam sucks." "Wahhh steam makes it so easy to pirate games." "ZOMG steam will go down eventully and I'd lose all my games.""Aww i can't resale, that is sooo important to me"

Get a highspeed connection, or just stop playing pc games and browsing the net since its almost a requirement nowadays anyway. People are always going to pirate games, if steam wasn't the easiest way to do it then people would still find alternatives. Piracy is always going to exist. Sure, steam wont last forever. Also, you're house might burn down, the sun might implode, you might die in a car crash tomorrow, and the world is going to end in 2012 anyway, so deal with it :P. Also the need to resale games is eliminated for me, anyways. Snatch up some immaculate deals, and make up the difference that way. Not to mention resale through steam is going to pop up sooner or later.

Sure you can - you purchase games from the DD outlets that let you run your games after registration without needing a watchdog program - Impulse, GamersGate, and GoG.

Steam is an excellent service. As a collector, I prefer to buy hard copies of my games, however, I've been using Steam to buy games I can't get in the USA in hard copy and the service is great. I haven't had any problems at all in the six years I've used Steam.

I have a great internet speed and I still prefer to not use steam. It is just a lame DRM program that has a great store and mediocre community feature attached. If you could play your games while steam is closed, then it would be an awesome program.

I just have Steam open all the time when my computer is on anyway. I don't see the big deal and I don't mind it being open to play games. I would also much prefer if my Games for Windows Live games and Assassin's Creed 2 worked through Steam instead.
