Here are my specs: ASUS M3A Motherboard, AMD Phenom 9500, 2G of RAM, 500W power supply, Windows XP, and a EVGA 8800GT.

The whole reason I built this rig was to play UTIII maxed out. If I try to put all settings on max at 1280x1024, I get around 30 to 40 fps when there is a lot of architecture or action on screen. Is this normal, and if so, what can I adjust to keep the fps around 60 with the game still looking decent?

Edit: Also, it runs just as poor at 1024x768

Install latest graphics drivers and update your game patch

That comp could probably max UT3 at 16x10 with 60 frames

Edit: no that is not normal

Thanks for the fast reply. I have the latest game patch. I'll see if I need to download a new driver.

I downloaded the new driver and it still runs really bad. Must be something wrong with the card.

Your card must be a faulty one,my rig which is even worse than yours (E4500,2GB RAM and HD 2600XT) can run UT3 on High @ 1680x1050,you should get 60FPS at 1280x1024 EASY.

If I put the world detail at 4 it's a lot better, but it still goes below 60 all the time. What really pisses me off is that I was hoping to play the Crysis demo at maybe 30 to 40 fps on high with the res at 1024x768. That game is totally unplayable, running at about 15 to 30. It hardly ever reaches 60 on medium. Hopefully I can sell this computer on Ebay and maybe only lose $300.00 out of this whole nightmare.

When I turn off my computer, if I don't shut the power supply off as well, it will freeze when it starts back up at the "Windows XP" startup screen....EVERYTIME, no matter what. If I just flip the switch off, even for 5 seconds, then turn it back on, the computer will start up fine. Maybe there is an issue with my power supply. Could that be causing the framerate problems?

That's definately a PSU problem...get it checked out ASAP. It would also account for your card not running properly, not getting enough power.

Thanks. I hope the PSU is shot. That would save me a lot of trouble. What I'm really worried about is that my PSU is fine, but my processor needs more than 500W of power.

What PSU are you using? You might need a higher rated one for that video card.

Definately go aftermarket PSU with that setup. I have the OCZ gamestream700 and I love it. It's about 100 dollars now, it's worth the price.
