I do not think that Vista has any say in this... when Ive said that tho, Far Cry 2, is very sensitive about systems that are not up to date, so try updating your mainboard, sound (this one is important), gfx (altho most people does that), and altho It likely has no effect, update bios.

I have a new PC (core i7 from Alienware) and in the past month, since I bought this machine, I've gone game crazy, and have been re-playing all the old games that didn't work very well on my old machine... this is not to mention the half a dozen or so new games that wouldn't even install on my old computer. Far Cry 2 was one of those games, and I'm shocked at how well it runs. I must've installed at least 15 titles on my system.

In Vista 64, after dozens and dozens of hours of playing, I've had one crash to desktop, and that was in Fallout 3. Other than that, every game has worked perfectly. I think the point here is that too many people blame the game when what they should be blaming is their own setup. I'm not saying your setup is bad - but how old is it? Operating systems tend to break down over time - maybe it's time for a fresh install?

Also, is this computer for gaming only? Do you surf the net on this PC. I always say to hardcore gamers - buy a computer for gaming only, and stay off the net. Don't download tons of software - just buy triple-A games. Do this from day one and you'll be surprised at how stable your PC will remain.

If you're using your computer to surf the net for, say, porn, then you're going to get what's coming to you.

EDIT: I'm not saying you shouldn't surf the net for porn, because let's face it, that's just not realistic... what I'm saying is don't use your brand new Alienware system to surf for porn... just buy a separate computer for that.

Rime, was there a manuel with your computer (should be a few)? one of them will likely tell you the maker of your mainboard, and they usually have update packs on thier websites.

Alternatively, if you have bought certain brands: Compaq, HP and so on, then there is a sticker on your pc, with a number (code) head to thier websites, and look for that series, and they will also often have the things you need updating.

so basicly If you know what brand and model your pc is, I am sure we can point you to the things you need updating ^^

Do you get an error message, or does it just close randomly? I had this problem where it would just close with no warning after and hour or so of playing it. I had to underclock (revert back to normal speed) my vid card and turn up the fan on it to play it without interruption.
