I've got the Nvidia 8600 with 256 MB memory, but on system requirements lab, it tells me that my video memory is over a gig. I'm a little confused about this...

It's showing shared system memory.

Why's that? Wouldn't it make my video card a little better?

It's not like a laptop's shared system memory though. If the system needs it it gives it to the system, if the video card needs it it gives it to the video card.

It's not where it's not usable by the system.
