I get free internet because of my dad's work, so we can't really change ISP's. Anyways, I have tried to play Cod2 and BF2142 online on my computer, which can run them fine, trust me, the computer's not the problem. I have ping like in the 300's on these games and it makes them basically unplayable. What's wierd, thought, is that on my XBox 360 (xbox live), my experience is almost always butter smooth. I was wondering if the games on my computer are to blame?

So if there is any way to help your ping, would someone give me some tips?

Thanks ;)

try shutting down the icons in the tray near the clock, also you should press ctrl alt del and check your processes, anything that seems useless ex: toolbars just stop them and try not running to much internet traffic ex: limewire, downloads and such.

Hope that helps:)

forgot where i read it, but supposedly windows XP saves some bandwith for itself which ofcourse isnt very beneficial for ping. This can be removed, but then again, cant remember where.

Make sure you disconnect any additional computers connected to the internet on your home network. This will raise your ping big time.

Check for other processes or services that are stealing bandwidth, like Bittorrent, XFire, or other downloads. There are lots of other applications that use bandwidth, so try to figure out which ones are slowing it down.

Yeah if you are on a wireless network that will mess you up something fierce. I used to play WoW on a wireless connection. I'd get latencies in the 2000ms range on a regular basis.

Try disabling the Background Intelligent Transfer Service:

GotoStart>ControlPanel>PerformanceandMaintenance>AdministrativeTools>Services

Scrolldown until you find Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and hit the Stop button up top.
