My computer has trouble recovering from sleep and booting up.

-Sometimes when i sleep it and turn it back on, my display will just stay off and my monitor will tell me "HDMI sleep mode" or something along those lines.
-Sometimes when my display turns off and i come back and wiggle the mouse, i get the same "HDMI" message

Both of the above problems can occasionally be fixed by me turning off the monitor then turning it back on and spamming Ctrl-Alt- delete.

Today i had a more serious problem. My computer was shut off and no matter how many times i pushed the button it would not come on, eventually it did start coming on but it would not POST. Later when i pushed the button randomly, hoping for something to happen, it started up and actually POSTed. After the POST the computer asked me if i wanted to start fresh, or attempt to restore what i was doing when it shut down. I told it to start fresh and everything is working properly as of now. It seems that whenever my computer gets shut off unexpectedly, it tries to restore itself to what it was doing and will not work unless i shut it down and tell it to start fresh.

Also, sometimes when after i am forced to shut it down because of one of the two problems listed at the top, the computer will give me a long continuous beep when it comes back on, which apparently can be my RAM. I then shut it down again and next time i turn it on it is OK.

Does anyone have ANY suggestions for this??? I have had some of these problems for a long time but i have no idea what is causing it. People tell me it could be my Power supply, RAM, Motherboard, Video card, BIOS chip, ect ect ect, so pretty much ANYTHING could be the issue is what i am hearing.I have a Gateway FX-6800 o1e .

NO ONE has been able to give me a half decent answer.

1) your power supply is going.. thats related to everything that happened TODAY

however the other two are because your monitor has a sleep mode.. id try to disable that in its settings if you can. if you cant well then thats something you cant change.

Those sleep/hibernate modes seem to be poorly written. I never use them because they don't work. It's a good idea to save power, but not at the expense of rendering the computer unusable. It's like those water-saving toilets you have to flush six times. Your other problem, I don't know about.

i dont use sleep/hibernate either because i get the same kind of issues.

instead i use a timed shutdown tool so windows will automatically shut down when its timed to. this is handy because i tend to fall asleep watching youtube vids or movies etc. i use "vista shutdown tool". but it also works for win 7.

It used to happen to me too. my computer froze while playing a game and when all failed i shut it down and started again, tried restoring, didnt work and i had to start from fresh.

I'd also say that maybe ur PSU is dying. Overheating? maybe.

Yup, by the description, I'd say power supply. If the computer doesn't POST, that means there's an issue with either the ram, cpu, mobo, or psu. Make sure the ram is seated correctly, check the mobo 4-pin power, look for any marks on the mobo, etc, but I"m thinking psu.
