I have saved some money but is it worth upgrading Q6600 to i7?

well you have to buy a new motherboard as well... i'd say let prices go down a tad.

If you want the lowest i7 everything (cpu, mobo, ram) would be priced around USD$600. :)

Easily over $1000, i7 965, 12 gigs of DDR3 (could be more), new mobo (LGA1366), etc.

Or just be happy with your Q6600 and GTX260, that is more then enough and will play games at decent settings for years.

going to the i7 platform is a waste of money atm since you need to upgrade the big three ( cpu mobo and ram) to make it all work together. Too expensive for what performance you get out of it.

Exactly my situation because I'm still on a P4 at 3.0 and an integrated graphics adapter

Q6600 and GTX 260 is plenty for all current games. If you feel like spending some cash on your comp without it being ridiculously expensive ie going i7, maybe get some very good cooling for your CPU (perhaps watercool) and overclock as high as you can.

Even the Q6600 wasn't worth it IMO.

I got a Q6600 back in August 08 and it still runs really well. You shouldn't need an i7 anytime soon, or at least until DDR3 RAM and the new Mobos start dropping their price.

Yeah I know. I'm thinking about waiting until april for the 4890( is that why you say it's my month?) but I'm not sure if I can wait that long to get my new PC. Do you think I should wait? Anyone know if the i7 mobo's and ddr3 ram will drop price in the next couple of months
