We haven't had a Dead Space Thread in at least 24 hours, so I thought I'd create one of my own.

So do you envy me that I haven't played it yet? Thoughts opinions? Did anybody else here arrive late to this party? And by the way, I had been waiting for the price on this one to drop, and today I saw that a seller on Amazon was selling a brand new copy for... get this... $15. So I jumped. And hit my head on the ceiling. No, I'm kidding.

Fifteen bucks! That is what I am talking about, my friends.

My understanding is that the graphics are better than Crysis?

Right.

So, the Dead Space instructions...

1) Store in a cold place!

2)Turn off lights.

3) Wear headphones.

4) Fasten seat-belts.

5) Wear protective diapers.

Noted.

You might get freaked out abit at first...but then once you get used to the gore and scare tactics, they all become a nuisance as you uncover the story.

It's just right. You'll enjoy the enemies.

There are no obvious scare tactics, I guess once people see two monsters jumping out of a closet they'll say all the game is like this. The spaceship has a fully functional ventilation system, and the monsters travel through it. If you run from a room, they might jump in the vents and follow you. You can sometimes notice them hiding behind vent grates, and the dust and noises alert you that they're about to pop out. Sometimes, after you shoot them, they pretend to be dead - only to jump at you after you've passed by their body. And sometimes entire minutes pass without a fight.

It's not a game with cheap scares, like Doom 3. It's better than that one and Resident Evil.

I've actually been playing Dead space recently aswell. I think it's a good game but not really scary at all, the only scary part is the first 5 minutes, with a nice adrenaline pump but the rest is pretty run of the mill. Theres only so many times you can be scared by some disabed looking monster waddling towards you.

i actually hated dead space. for one, it wasn't scary at all. I played it alone in the dark and it's just not scary. I though bioshock was scarier. second, the gameplay just sucks. I'm sorry but it's one of the most boring games i've played recently. I don't envy you not playing it.

First watch the prologue anime. In any case the game is pretty good it has a good story, decent graphics and very good perfomance. I wouldnt say the game is scary, i didnt think it was scary at all, even with the headphones on very high and alone at home even at nightime, it doesnt really have any scary scenes also you keep finding ammo for the specific weapon you are using all the time, so its not a survival game its a more simplier version, also the game easy, i tried replaying it and i was like meh, one time playing it was awesom no nee for another one. (its one of those games that you dont replay) The game has a pretty good story and its NOT repettive you always move into diffirent decks and complete diffirent objectives, it has puzzles that make sense, but it doesnt bore you with puzzles and less combat.. (eg like the later parts of hl2) ALL the weapons are awesome, pretty cool and unique id say, there are many upgrades to buy in the shops so you better collect everything and sell them to buy better equipment, i dare to say its much better than resident evil 4. It is the closest thing to ss2 and one of the few games that has good progression, good levels and story and not some repettive borring crap like most games out there. ps: if you have trouble with aiming then disable v sync.

I played more borring games than that, hl2, mass effect, assasin creed, or far cry 2 which is logcally borring for most people, or gta iv it was similar, or fear and doom 3 all the levels were simple just shoot and kill but dead space has puzzles and stuff, as for the gameplay? I dont know? what is better the shoot and shoot and shoot in doom 3, or resident eivl 4 that you cant move when you aim and you run out of ammo? well it seems its one has its opinions for example bioshock was nice but the weapons didnt really impress me and the ending was pretty lame.

There's a difference between horror and horror themed.

Dead Space is psychological science-fiction, closer to Solaris than The Thing or Resident Evil.

It was a solid new IP, with great production values,a very unique GUI that increased the immersion tenfold, and a great mix of shooter and rpg elements that kept me coming back for more. And for me personally, it had a dark and tense atmosphere with a few scary moments. Everyone has different tolerances for stuff like this, but to me, the "feel" was right. It also sports the best controls ever for a third-person survival horror game.

The half life games were the least boring FPS I've ever played. The only FPS' that I'd play almost continuously and love every minute, not like most which tend to drag on about half way through.

And HL1 and 2 were both pretty long games for a FPS, and the hardest thing to accomplish when developing in this genre is keep the players interest as the game goes on because they are generally too repetitive or too intense to play in long sittings, at least for me.
