With people arguing over the whole haze vs. Crysis debate and what have you, I have to say "Who cares, as long as they are good." Has anybody noticed that... even though the genre seems large, it really isn't? The fact that every good FPS game can actually be recalled without a problem? We get so many hybrids using FPS elements but the last FPS game that I can remember that was straight out gunsablazing good was F.E.A.R.With so little actual FPS games coming out that seem somewhat good (Crysis, Haze, timeshift... and thats practicaly it!), I'm starting to feel the withdrawal!

I tried them all mate. And I am pretty sure that there is a pretty damn huge group of other people who tried them all too. I'm not demanding that the gaming industry keep up or anything, I'm just trying to point out the.... absense... of good shooters...

Me. :D But I haven't played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. yet so I'm looking forward to that.

I played through Sin Emergence recently and that wasn't too bad (HL2 clone sort of), but the sequel episodes were shelved (slight chance of returning) :( that doesn't help matters

Yeah, I'd like more also, it's a great genre.

Good shooters? How about good RTS or RPG games? Man the industry has been slacking off lately.

I know exactly what you mean. I love FPS games, and there are not many good new ones released at the moment. Personally i'm looking forward to enemy territory quake wars.

I thought Quake wars was a strategy game...I'm probably wrong though.

Huh, I didn't even know about Haze till this thread showed up. Thanks, I've got another game to look forward to!

EDIT: Looks to me like Quake Wars is in fact a shooter but with a lot of strategy elements. Too much for me to think about. I'm all about some pick up and play games, like FEAR or unreal tournament. My tastes only. Your mileage may vary...

I'm starving for any new game as well, I'm loyal to the FPS genre but lately I've had some urges to give Guild Wars a swing just to have some depth that we've been lacking on our end

I'm always looking for more FPS's, it's an addiction of mine :P ....I'm gonna grab the new Alpha Prime game recently released in English, the demo is up on GS and it's not bad at all, kinda like Doom. Not a AAA but a very decent shooter. You have to get it through the company's download service though, which I don't mind. Besides that, I'll probably hit the store on Tuesday and pick up Call of Juarez, despite the poor reviews.

I think I know the problem. Now, before you guys burn me as a heretic, hear me out.
As the market gets better games, developers have more preasure to release the next masterpiece. So thusly they spend more time "crafting" and we wait longer for that game to come out. It comes out, its about 10 hours long, and thats it. We wait another half year for the next amazing one.

Thats not good. I remember when just "good" FPS games came out every few months and you would get that "gem" once in a while. I rather have that then having to wait every 6 months for one game, no matter how redefining it is.

I agree Arctic. There used to be tons of FPS's coming out, and I used to play them all. Even the lower budget titles were still plenty of fun, like games such as Chrome, Devestation, Iron Storm(Which I loved) for instance. Won't shatter any game reviews but was tons of fun, and you just don't see a lot of titles like this coming out anymore. It's either big name titles every 6-10 months, or extremely low budget that most stores don't even carry unfortunately.

Sorry to let you down dude, butplease dont get alpha prime:

-it looks like a doom3 early prototype.

the textures are hi-res alright, but:

the animation, voice acting, and plot are grade F (im being generous)

most of the enviorment is static/dead/looking and non-interactive (misleading screenshots)

reeks of unoriginal "cheap"low-quality imitation.

utterly lacks polish, vastly out of tune (vs finely tuned)

half (16th)assed through and through-give it a miss man,takemyadvice.

as much as i like supporting new/unheared of companies, this time was a mistake.

this group and its talent should join the big boys, NOT compete with them.

be patient, though, better things are on the way..
