It came with 10.5.7. I have not tried Windows 7 beta. I am scared to use any windows now because of all the virus and malware problems i was having. I may still want to play some pc games, but, there is a new "crossover" method that allows you to play pc games without loading windows...i need to try that out.

Yeah, I have a Macbook Pro as my portable and I have to say I love it. I do love gaming tho, so I keep a gaming rig as Macs are pretty much useless for gaming.

Viruses/malware very rarely if at all just happen on PC, you must have had unsafe browsing and program installing habits.

Stop visiting shadey sites, I have never had a virus on my Desktop. You payed how much for an old dual core, outdated gpu, and ddr2 on a nForce board with a slow hard drive? I'll admit that it does come with a quality panel and like you said the design and noise is very nice but not enough to justify the price, imo.

You can't blame a PC for getting viruses. That is the users fault. How can a computer get viruses by it's self?

Hey I got a Macbook for college and I agree it is wonderful but other then writing term papers and playing flash games, you can't do much else with them. That why I bought a desktop computer so that I can actually have fun with it!

It really is a difference. If you don't play games often then get a Mac and a x-box but if you love games like I do, get both and your world is in perfect harmony!

BTW the reason that Macbooks hardly have viruses is not the programming. It is becuase there is such a small small small percentage of Macbook owners compared to regular Windows owners. Anybody who makes and designs malware and the like target the Windows more so then Macbook. Of course this doesn't apply to everything but it does account for a large number of viruses and bugs out there.

this is why people hate mac users cause they actually think Steve Job's blesses every mac before it leaves the manufacturing floor, and thats why it never gets a virus. 1st of all you will probably get a virus on your mac too since its the operators fault not the computers fault. Not as many obviously cause no one cares enough to make a virus for such a tiny demographic.

This, if a virus were made that was able to infect 100% of Mac users, it would only be about 10% of the total computer market. Whereas I much less infectious virus on the PC platform will still have much better chance at reaching more people.

Any computer is going to have problems with malware and hardware issues, MACs aren't invulnerable to these things.

If your PC's fans were noisy, then buy quieter fans.
If you care about looks, then buy a different case.
Use NOD32 for malware protection.
If the PC was slow, then find out what's making it that way and change it.
If you prefer the MAC GUI over Windows, you could've loaded a MAC dock or even other ways to personalize your desktop experience. In the end you would've saved a load of cash and still use the leading platform of the computer industry.
Apple does not make all of their own hardware and software.
I'd like to see a video of it "booting up in a second".

I sounds like you just flat out didn't even try. And standardisation? If my computer starts malfunctioning, I wouldn't want to have to send it to the manufacturer to fix it or have to pay for expensive Apple proprietary hardware. No thanks.

not possible. If you don't download anything, you won't get a virus, simple as that. People act like it is easy and common to get a virus when in reality, all it takes is common sense to stop your computer from getting viruses. It is a stupid reason to switch to a ridiculously over priced computer that can't do as much as a windows PC. Plus windows 7 is coming otu and you can upgrade to it for only $50.

Most people that hate on Macs haven't used one since elementary school. Macs are in fact absolutely great, of course not for gaming but for everything else lol. I would like anyone to find me a laptop with Core 2 duo 3 Ghz, 4 gigs of ddr3 ram and a 500 Gb hard drive with a la nvidia 9600 M GT that can last 7 hours without charging or plugging in, because that what I do on my macbook pro, i last. Laptops are meant to be portable, being chained to a wall sucks when you are out there in the wild trying to google survival tips lol. Sure it costs more but if you hold a macbook you can feel value with the body hand carved out of a single block of aluminum, other laptops fall apart while this baby will last for years. Not to mention I can easily dual boot into windows 7 and play me some COD 4 and Team fortress, screw crysis its for graphics whores.

Yeah, Crossover by Codeweavers. It uses X11 to emulate. I tried it before but I mainly play FPS and there is a noticeable amount of lag when you push up the graphics settings. While it is a step in the right direction, I don't think its going to do much because most Mac owners aren't computer gamers.

Isn't crossover based on wine? If so, it's not technically an emulator :P

BTW, I've used macs, they are incredibly useless, they look nice oooohohohoh. That's it btw, they can't run exe files since they are based on UNIX, making them almost completely useless, and they aren't good for server oriented stuff, so they are even more useless. They suck for being a desktop, I mean what's so good about them? I've used them, "programs load faster, boots up quciker" No they don't. BTW Macs aren't that much safer than Windows, sure there are less viruses but they are more exploitable than Windows. Wasn't there that hacking competition? Macs got cracked first, then Windows but it took much longer. Let's see...

1. They can't run exe files/games (Though this isn't really their fault, it's based on UNIX, but they want it to be a desktop replacement)

2. Overpriced.

3. Not any better than Windows.

4. Useless.

5. Only useful for people who are complete idiots who go on websites and clicking random porno links. Then they complain they got a virus, get a head. Oh and torrents are another good source for viruses.

Also to the OP, you do realize you can just build your own computer with it's own case to your liking? My server is silient, sleek, and faster and more useful than your Mac will ever be.

I'm not a Windows fanboy, it's just that everything is built for Windows and it is the ideal desktop platform, because everything is made for it. So keep it that way, we don't need a Mac in there. Also just read thishttp://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant

Linux is the best, although microsoft has a stranglehold on gaming thanks to direct x.

Not to be rude but have you ever used a distro of Linux? If so which one? I'm just curious, not trying to be annoying :P

Yeah, Windows can do everything MAC can plus tons more. It's very easy to maintain if you take the time to get an AV/Firewall that is worth it's salt like Kaspersky Internet Security or Nod32. You can configure custom hardware however you like as Jiggly said. MAC is just a simplified pretty OS on overprice hardware. You can achieve everything a MAC can do on Windows for much less.

But windows is such a system hog though... A Macbook can last for 7 hours plus with Mac OSX, but boot up windows on a mac and its barely 3, on a regular non mac laptop its like 2 hours maximum. Macbooks are ideal for school imo. Any program thats on windows there is one on Mac that is similar or better, also works the other way around. Mac desktops should never be bought unless you own some fancy business and are rich as hell, but if you need a portable laptop with battery life that's not a weak ass netbook there is none better than a macbook. Mac laptops > regular laptops ... Mac Desktops suck ass compared to PC desktops. And if you are buying a laptop as a desktop replacement for games, then you are just plain dumb.

I wouldn't recommend that for a desktop OS for someone who can't even use Windows, haha(This is towards the OP, not you guys).

Linux, even Ubuntu, is not user friendly. When I first started playing with Ubuntu I felt like a bumbling idiot, there is a lot of work to even get something simple installed.

It's not hard to use, I got around it in a day lol, but you can't say Linux is hard to use, because it's so open ended, you can make it a super simple OS, like what Asus did with the EE Pc.

4. Useless.

Linux is the best, although microsoft has a stranglehold on gaming thanks to direct x.

Not to be rude but have you ever used a distro of Linux? If so which one? I'm just curious, not trying to be annoying :P

I used a few, really like ubuntu and recomend it to anyone.

I can't say it's the best OS ever, but it is certainly it is a great OS. I use it on my desktop, love it :)

mac is okay but from a computer/network technicians point of view there nice to have but 100% unnecissary. the only reason i have one at work is to monitor and update the handful of macs in 1 department at work. which imho is a little wasteful.. its like 20 machines each with 1 user.

[QUOTE="Videodogg"][QUOTE="-GeordiLaForge-"][QUOTE="Videodogg"] Yeah, i am not much a pc gamer, so i have no intention of loading god awful windows in my Mac.

Have you tried Windows 7? I love it... BTW, what version OS came installed on your MAC?

It came with 10.5.7. I have not tried Windows 7 beta. I am scared to use any windows now because of all the virus and malware problems i was having. I may still want to play some pc games, but, there is a new "crossover" method that allows you to play pc games without loading windows...i need to try that out.

yea mac is the bomb. use the windows 7 Pre-RTM 7137 build. Its great. I have it dual booted on my macbook 13inch.

SF_KiLLaMaN

I've clicked on non-dirty sites and gotten viruses before, don't stereotype us.....

you dont know much about a mac do you.... macs offer a lot of great software benefits and your never frustrated. not possible.

Computers are not living beings that can catch malware as if they were airborne viruses. Macs and PCs fall under the category of "Computers" right? That being said, Windows due to its more widespread use when compared to Macs, has become the most obvious target for virus creators and malware makers. It makes perfect sense to eye the biggest target since it should be easier to get some return on the effort due to the more "opportunities" or users to exploit. With enough effort on a user, one can be virus free like myself. My last three gaming rigs, including my present one, have been virus-free since I'm a real stickler for security when it comes to my PC.

wrong. you still have to defrag in windows. No defragmentation is necessary on a mac. NONE. NADA.

That's the reason to keep MACS around, because their filesystem doesn't write fragments? What a wonderful reason to keep MACs around.

I just defrag daily and I don't have to worry about it because it lasts about 15 minutes, though it is true I wish Windows would switch over to file system like ext4, though they would have to completely rewrite Windows, because of how it bases itself on NTFS and its security... I mean no defragmentation would be lovely. Though that reason alone is just weak.

Most of them. And some that did are just installational problems.
