Been using a laptop for the past 7 yrs and now it's time to get a desktop again and play PC games at the max settings. Planning on getting it at ecollegepc cause I just choose the parts and they help me build it but if you know a better site then post it here. I also need stuff like monitor, keyboard, maybe mouse and speakers if they're worth getting, etc. I need this to be under $750, thanks.

Do a little research about building a PC and what parts you need. Than go on a computer hardware store online and pick out the best bang for your buck. Thats what I did and it worked out great and I was 13 when I build my first PC, so it can't be that hard.

Word to the wise, OP - building a PC is not something that takes a 5 minute rush-job.

If you don't want to spend time building a PC, I would go with a prebuilt one.

Edit: Guy above me - not sure about PC shops. Is it cheaper to have them build your computer than buying pre-built? I've never dealt with them before.

Found this on Newegg for $720, think you'd be happy with it:

PC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227367&Tpk=N82E16883227367

GFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161375

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009316

That would be a solid mid-range PC with cheap parts. But if you have someone who could assemble a PC for you you should buy the components separately, you can get a better deal that way.

edit: I don't like the prices on ecollegepc.com at all.

You can probably scrape an i5 2500k, 4GB of ram and a 6870/560 in that budget.

no way thats going to happen with an OS and a monitor which will take about $270 of his budget leaving him with less than $500 for a build. $230 for a core i5 2500k, $140 for 6870 (if he's lucky), $30 for 4 gigs ram, $70 for HDD, $50 for case, $50 for a cheap h61 mobo, $50 for a psu, the budget is already $100 over . Im not even considering applicable taxes and shipping....

Ah **** it, I'm gonna go over my $750 budget since I'm living rent free in my parents house and only working part time right now with no bills to pay. So how is this build? I'm gonna order from that ecollegepc site btw:

Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Processor (6M Cache, 3.30 GHz)
Stock Intel LGA1156 Heatsink and Fan
MSI H61M-E23 (B3)
8GB (4GBx2) PC3 10666 DDR3 1333Mhz
500GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA300
24X LG SATA Dual Layer DVD/-RW/CDRW w/Nero
GeForce GTX 560
Window 7 64 bit
Cooler Master HAF 912
600 Watt Corsair CMPSU-600
I chose the default thing on sound card which is Onboard Sound

Total cost: $995 but they still got that Black Friday 5% promo and i suck at math so im not sure the total after 5% off. Here are some questions I got:

-For the sound card would it be a good idea to get a good sound card if I listen to a lot of music?
-For wireless network, do I need to buy anything to get wireless internet working or what?
-Is everything compatible?
-And is there anything I can downgrade to make it cheaper but is still good and can max out games?

-Is there a better site out there that helps people build computers?

That's extremely expensive considering you only have the computer itself there and IIRC you needed monitor and everything else too. I'm not from the US and don't deal with these sites so can't give you advice on if there's a better place but I've seen people mention www.ibuypower.com so you could look there. Soundcard only make a difference if you have high quality speakers or descent quality headphones. For wireless network, yes you need a wireless adapter or a networkcard that supports it.

^That^ and the motherboard and CPU combination is wrong. Not that it wouldn't work, but for a 2500K you want a P67 or a Z68 board to use its full potential. With a H61 board such as the 1 you chose the i5-2400 or a lesser CPU makes the most sense.

why don't you build it yourself? Its pretty dam easy all it is, is putting socket A into socket B. All the holes are pretty much in place. If you decide to go that route then give us a shout and we can help you out. The best stores to buy parts from are ncix and canadacomputers. If you really don't want to build it yourself then you could just buy the parts and pay someone to put it together for you.

Ditto. That is why he would be better off buying a decent prebuilt computer and then just updrading the video card and/or processor at a later date. Lots of gaming computers that are advertised for $500-1000 dollars online are just the tower. Kinda hard to build a max settings rig on a $750 budget. Especially if you have no monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

I already got Skyrim and BF3 on day one for the 360 but is it worth it to buy both of them again for PC? And what other games within the past 10 yrs are worth getting on the PC? I don't know anything about PC games except for the Blizzard games and multiplatform games.

Skyrim is pretty good on the Xbox if you have a nice TV with HDMI, I wouldnt get it again on PC. As for BF3 that is meant to be much better on PC.

Check your ram to make sure its model number is on the qualified vendor list. The ram I found on newegg (which I assume you are using) doesn't match up with the list. Look at page 3 and 4. I am having trouble posting links, but if you just go to the Gigabyte site and enter your model, you will be able to dl the memory support list there. Pages 3 and 4 are for 1600Mhz ram.

Other than that, PSU is adequate for card and processor, I don't see any other real issues.

It might still work, especially if there is a bios update, but If I were you, I would go with something on the list just to be sure.
