I learned an important lesson from the recent steam sale.

Some games are just crappy console port, even at $5 that are not worth it.

I got a bunch of games from the sale and a few of them ran like absolute crap, I regret buying them. I am using the original Crysis and Crysis 2 as standard because my PC can run them at max setting and the FPS never gets below 60.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 w/ Vietnam pack

The single player campaign runs perfectly fine, I never get below 60FPS on the max setting but the multiplayer suck donkey balls. Even if I set the settings to low and reduce the res the game is choppy as hell, the fps will drop to below 20 some time it's unplayable. The Vietnam expansion runs a little better but still crap. I played this on the PS3 and it's very stable at 30FPS no matter how many people or action is on the screen...

Grand Theft Auto IV

Setting the res and detail level doesn't change the FPS at all! This POS pisses me off. I had to spent 2 hours reading forums and downloading custom patch to fix it. Now I finally got the game to run stable at high setting and getting 45-50 FPS. It just pisses me off that the game doesn't work right out of the box. The liberty city episode runs a little smoother but still require tons of hotfix and custom patch.

Assassin's Creed II

runs choppy and the control sucks unless you are using a Xbox 360 controller otherwise the game is frustrating.

The worst part? Games for windows live. This POS suck so much it made me rage. **** you Microsoft and your ****ty service! If I don't connect to the internet, it won't let me save the game. So I tried to login and it forced me to update to the latest live version but the update failed and won't let me update, and it won't let me save the game and it ****ing send me warnings every few minutes. The faq and help page is useless. So basically I paid for a game but I can't play it because of games for windows live. Seriously? Now I understand why people pirate games. Just to avoid this kind of bullsh**

I dont have a problem running the game on high settings with a hd 4850, 4gb ram and phenom quad core 3.0. But i will say that AC2 was TERRIBLE port. The keys don't even say like, 1234, E, Space Bar, Shift. You just get random symbols and buttons. Its very confusing at times.

Lulz. I have all the games you mention and it runs fine. I have at least 45 FPS on BC2. Other games work fine even GTA IV running it smoothly modded. I'd give you 4/10 though.

It might suffer from multiplatform development but there is no visible proof it is a console port.

I don't know about you guys but console games on PC always seem to have a delay between mouse movements and what I see on the screen. Not all games do this to me. The Call of Duty series responds very fast even if I am getting lower FPS than games with big delays. Anyone else experience this?

If you think any three of those games are crappy console ports, you are wrong. Bad Company 2 is a perfect example of a multiplatform title, not a port, and Assassin's Creed II does not use Live, it uses the crappy Ubisoft one, but you should have known that going in (the rest of us did). THe controls take some getting used to, but the keyboard and mouse work perfectly for it.

Stop raging, you have absolutely no grounds for it...you got three awesome games for an incredibly inexpensive price. I suggest you get over what minor faults you think they have and start enjoying them.

What do you mean no visible proof? It's originally a console series. It built off Bad Company which was a console only title. I doubt they even planned a PC version in the first place.

Bad Company 2 is great on PC, but Assassins Creed 2 is copy/paste port and a badly optimized at that, with bad keyboard controls. They keyboard and mouse don't work "perfectly", at all. They are pretty bad actually. Not recommended without a controller.

The Batman game, that's how you do a proper PC version, not AC2. Brotherhood was a bit better.

Yeah, your processor was the bottleneck in those games. Throw in an i5 or i7 and your framerate should jump considerably.

Yup. Most PC games are not true PC games, majority are console and gamepad designed which sucks. In essence, a console port.

Just be happy you didn't spend full retail price on them.

yeah PC gaming is all about choice...but not when i have to choose between the worst movement control scheme/device known to human race "the xbox 360 controller" and the second worst "the ps3 controller"...I dont want to choose between "crap" and "vomit"...

I don't understand why people got to complain about fps and optimization when their running older vid cards or processors. I have an older system that runs all those games fine, but of course I can't run them maxed out. They still look great and play fine. Just enjoy them the best you can and either pony up the cash for an upgrade or stop complaining and just play at the settings your rig runs best at.

[QUOTE="the_ChEeSe_mAn2"][QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"] Bad Company 2 IS a console port though :PGeneralShowzer
It might suffer from multiplatform development but there is no visible proof it is a console port.

What do you mean no visible proof? It's originally a console series. It built off Bad Company which was a console only title. I doubt they even planned a PC version in the first place.

So a console port is a game whose series was on console and then moved to pc? HUH? What does the series itself have anything to do with bad company 2 itself being a port over from a console? I always believed a console port is a game first made or developed onto the console platform then moved over to the pc. Games such as Assasins creed, the force unleased games, Saints row 2 etc etc would fall under console ports.. Bad company 2 who had its own special PC development, I would say is definitely not a console port lol..

lol BC2 ran wonderfully for me. Its a great game and its more fun on PC than on consoles (I had it for PS3) and Vietnam is a great expansion. Put 146 hours total into that game before uninstalling.

I didn't have any problems with GTAIV. It worked fine for me without any custom patches or hotfix. I don't have any problems with GFWL either. I like it and would like to see more games use it. Either GFWL or Steam or an auto-updater like the retail version of Crysis 2 has. I hate having to look for patches. But I know how annoying it can be when you buy a game that won't work. I bought Stalker CoP from Steam and it refuses to boot. It just says something about the X-ray engine not working. I've looked for fixes but found nothing. I agree that this is the most annoying thing about PC gaming. I doubt I'll ever buy another Stalker game.

Just to avoid this kind of bullsh**1076751
Agreed. I've bought one game with Games for Windows. I will never again do that.
Isn't it enough that MS nearly have a monopoly on the PC gaming OS?

How about updating your drivers once in a while? Formatting the machine a couple times a year?

Man, people today sure are spoiled. With a minimum amount of work you can get almost any game to run flawlessly even on a 4 year old machine. Back in my day, we had to work some serious computer magic to get things to run acceptably even on high end machines.

Assassin's creed is way better on the pc. I borrowed them from a buddy for xbox when they first came out, an it was worth buying them for the pc.

Bad Company 2 HATES Dual-Cores. I only recommend the game to people who have Quad Cores. It is still fun and I do play it often, but I have to play on low and still the FPS sucks. If it were any other game I would have uninstalled it by now.

Grab a Core 2 Quad. GTA4 and BC2 recommend Quads, even fast dual cores choke running those games

[QUOTE="1076751"]

I highly doubt that you can run Crysis 1 maxed out and mantain you FPS above 60. Hiiiiighly doubt it.....

Lol yeah, lets see how he copes on the Awakening level, or the Assault level :P

What settings do you play on? Everyone I have talked to with a dual core has had crappy performance in BC2.

Yup. Most PC games are not true PC games, majority are console and gamepad designed which sucks. In essence, a console port.

Just be happy you didn't spend full retail price on them.

rhazzy

Nothing wrong with a game accommodating a gamepad. I thought PC Gaming was all about choice?

yeah PC gaming is all about choice...but not when i have to choose between the worst movement control scheme/device known to human race "the xbox 360 controller" and the second worst "the ps3 controller"...I dont want to choose between "crap" and "vomit"...

How is the xbox 360 controller bad?

Nah PC gaming is about being a whiney little jerk. :P TCs PC isn't very good, end of story. Crossfiring video cards with that CPU just shows a complete lack of clues. :)

BFBC2 runs perfectly fine SP and MP for me. As for it being a console port. Well if it truly is one, then it's the best damn console port I've played in a while.

GTA4 yes, all the others, no. Running BC2 @1080p 1xaa with 60+FPS on a 4890. AC2 ran very well and I never noticed any slowdowns, but I never measured my FPS in that game.
