The 8400 is the lowest performing cards in the entire 8 series. While it may be a recent card, it's likely to perform worse than cards far older than it, purely for the fact that it wasn't designed for gaming. If you wan't to be able to play PC games with the latest graphics technology you would need an 8600 or above.

Unfortunately, unless you upgraded to a new card, your 8400 simply won't cut it with todays modern games, regardless of what technology it claims to support.

Games are not just video card based. You'll have to come off a few more pennies if you want to run games with full graphics, even if you do get a top of the line card. You'll need a good motherboard, ram, processor and power supply. Probably some good cooling to go along with it.

like everyone says in your other posts, you seam to be expecting to be able to play games on full settings just because you have a graphics card that says geforce 8

it is -unfortunatly- not as simple as that. the 8400 is not meant to be used to play games, and its extremely cheap price reflects that. if you want to play games with high settings then you need to spend £150 ($300) at least on a geforce 8800 gt or better. this will give you a massive performance boost but even then you wont be able to play dirt on ultra high settings because it still wont be enough.

keep in mind thease are very new games, and the hardware is playing catch up. if you want to play games on extreme settings then you have to pay for it. and it aint cheep. i spent £1000 on my pc a month ago and dirt on ultra is still choppy at times.

Someone seems to have fallen for BS marketing...

Your card is utter rubbish, probably no better than a 7300 GT or 7600 GS.

Always check reviews when buying a video card, not the company's marketing lines.

This sort of ignorance continues to appall me; that's why I created a thread to point to:

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26271808

(Sure would be neat, if the software on this site was halfway up to date, to automatically recognize links. No, I shouldn't HAVE to know HTML code.)

The VGA card information is ALL OVER THE 'NET, not just in the heads of experienced old timers.

If it's a cheap card, then for gaming, that equals "JUNK", no ifs, ands, or buts.

You really don't need an 8800GT. Just get a 9600GT and you will be good.

Its like buying a new ford focus and trying to race it against a 68' Mustang, it may be new but that doesn't mean it will perform well on the track, it will get you from point a to point b, just as the 8400 will.

Why'd you make another thread about your 8400 GS. You had one last night, er this morning. Your 8400 GS will NEVER max out any new games ever! Only older games. CounterStrike 1.6?

You could get the same tires and audio system for both a Ferrari and a Ford Focus. That doesn't mean Focus is as fast as a Ferrari.

Your a prisoner to the rubbish performance of a 8400 because you refused to research the card before you bought it.

Now that you wasted some money you might take some time next time and see what a card is acually capable of. Take what you've learned and start applying it for now on and you wont run into this issue again.
