I want to buy a gpu for less than about $50 maybe $60 to upgrade from my onboard graphics so my pc won't lag while playing Company of Heroes and other games. I don't care about how good the graphics look, I just want to get good fps with no slowdowns or lagg.

Current system specs

Pentium D 2.8 Ghz 1MB cache

1GB DDR2 RAM

256MB ATI x200 onboard graphics

I was thinking about a x1650 pro since I can get them for as low as $40. But what would you all recommend? How much of a difference is there in the x1650pro, x1600pro, and 7600gs?

*Edit: What about 8series cards, do I have to be using Vista to use one of those?

Well, it will get something that'll do better than 17fps.

*Edit: I know cuz I used to have a x1300 that would get around 30 fps playing CoH.

The GPU isnt the only thing that is causing the stutters, more ram plus a better GPU will put a stop to it.

Ehh, that is too expensive, can't afford it.

I will probably get another gig of RAM later on. But right now I know I can get an increase in fps with a cheap gpu, cuz an x1300 in my machine will get close to 30fps, as apposed to my current 17fps.

No,i run a HD 2600XT just fine on XP Home SP2 32-bit,as for the card,i'd get a HD 2600XT GDDR3 for around $90-95 if possible,or get a HD 2600Pro for $64 if needbe,both are still light years ahead of a Intergrated X200: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102103

You can forget about DX10 with that card even if you had vista.

I must have missed the rebates, but I'm leaning more towards the HD 2600 pro now. cuz it's cheaper.

My old x1300 was PCI, because my previous pc didn't have AGP or PCI-E

Jeez wht are y'all expecting! If I have gotten by with playing CoH for the past 7 or so months with x200 and x1300 gpu's, then I think an HD2600pro will perform exceptionally well according to my standards.

Yep,HD 2600Pro will trample your X200 and X1300 into the ground, you should get CoH playable @ Medium-High on at least 1024x768.
