okay if you want to build it your self and get the items then go to Newegg.com
Here are some of Spec you want to look for to make the computer very very good
-E8400/E8500
-GtX260, ATI HD 4850, GTX9800, or ATI 4870. They are all good
-680I Sli Mobo
-4Gb if you go with vista(64bit better), 2Gb if you go with XP
-320Gb hardrive

Now if you dont want to go for building a computer then get a prebuild which will cost you more, but you dont have to go through all the crap of building it and other stuff. Again go to newegg.com, or Cyberpowerpc.com and find one of your liking and budget

here are some that i like and are good at the same time
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Infinity_9800_GT/
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Infinity_8800_Pro/
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227096
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229047
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229025R On this you have to add 2Gb Ram

NP, although dont think they are the best option for price. Although they Cyberpowerpc does give 3year warranty. You can also check avadirect. There customer service is really good and price is okay

here is one that you can customize http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_configurator.asp?PRID=9554 I made one with 1000 budget that is using the following
-E8400
-Ati HD 4850
-Vista 64Bit
-4Gb Kingston
-320 Gb
-Corsair 550PSU
-The default Mobo
