If I wanted to take a break from Unreal Tournament play, what are some good games that are more relaxed and a bit slower paced. Sometimes I get tired of in your face shooting all the time and was wondering if there are some different types of games that don't require so much precision skill as UT and most of the other FPS games. I played Guild Wars for just a little while back in 2005 or 2006 but not long enough to get to know it. I'm just wondering what different gametypes are out there that are not FPS. Any ideas? Thanks, Prozac

Sims 2 is a good game. DiRT is great to just get a change of scene, or better yet GRiD.

Sims 2 was horrible, try Civilization 4 it's like playing a board game.

It's whatever you make it, I guess. Civ4 is a different kind of game, obv. Not that board games are bad or anything but with the soda-blooded generation entering gaming it's hardly a good marketing staple :P

There are indie games: World of Goo, The Ship, Defcon, Multiwinia, etc.

There are adventure games: Sam & Max, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, etc.

There are older games: Pschonauts, Fallout and its sequal, Dreamfall, etc.

There are RPGs: Bioshock (kinda), Mass Effect, The Witcher, etc.

There are MMOs: World of Warcraft, free MMOs, etc.

There are RTSs: Dawn of War, Total War, etc.

There are TBS: Civilization...

take your pick

I second World of Goo. Very simple, fun and relaxing to play.

I had a list of RTSs and RPGs for you, but they're rather more intense.

One suggestion here: There's a section on the PC homepage that allows you to browse by the different gaming genres. Once you click in Browse you can see even more options, like the different sub-genres of strategy games, e.g., Turn-based (TBS). This tool allows you to view the games by rating or the most recent. It will give you a great idea of some of the best games in each genre and then you can simply drill down to the game's page for more info, screenshots, demos, etc.

Personally, I recommend trying out some strategy games, since it's one of the classic PC genres.

I'm mainly a strategy gamer, so I recommend any Total War games, Company of Heroes and Civilization IV

Oblivion's a 1st person action rpg, a bit too shooterish IMO.
