hey guys, i need a little help with choosing the correct video card. I have 500 watts of power, Pentium 4 and 1.00 GB of RAM, a low profile port and an AGP bus. I currently have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card but i want to update.Which AGP card is the bestpossible card that i can buy without upgrading my motherboard to PCI express?

the agp version of the x1950 pro, but it'd cost about $50 more to get a PCIe board and card. AGP is dead/dying. I made the mistake of buying a 7600 instead of going to pcie, and now im upgrading again. that card wont be your bottleneck, the bus itself is going to be the slow point of your system

Nah. THe actual bus won't be the bottleneck for a while yet. 2.1GB/sec is plenty. That's why the X1950XT AGP performs exactly like the PCIe version.

To more easily sum up what these guys are saying (and they are correct):

The X1950 PRO and XT are the two top AGP cards available (and probably the last cards that will ever be made for AGP.)

X1950 PRO AGP = Around $200
X1950 XT AGP = Around $250

You can look at your decision this way (according to the purchase you decide to make).

X1950 PRO = Not as fast as the XT, but still a good card and will hold you over for a bit until you finally move up to a PCI-Express board.

X1950 XT = Fastest AGP card available, but also usually $60+ more expensive than the Pro, meaning you'd be spending more money for a card that will be left behind when DX10 games start rolling in and AGP cards begin to lose power.

You really can't go too wrong, because both are good cards and will blast your 9800 PRO easily.

There are rumors of Dx10 AGP cards, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.roulettethedog

Not rumors, AMD's partners have shown off the bridge chips at recent shows.
There will be AGP AMD cards.

What about the AGP 7950GT and 7900GS cards? The AGP 7950GT should put the AGP X1950Pro to shame at the very least.

wat is your prefered score from 3dmark06 from this card. I had this same problem as you're having now, and after like a week and a half of research I got a ATI/AMD X1650XT with a 3dmark06 score of 3435. that card performs better than a nvidia 7600GT. the card is very nice and cheap too.us I think the 256MB AGP version cost like $130-$150. I have the 512 version and thats a great card too.us

Best as in you don't care about cost but performance best? The X1950 XT from GeCube.

BUT, I think GeCube or Saphhire are bring out a 2600 XT for the AGP interface, so stay tuned for that.

2600XT seems to be slower than 8600GTS which is also slower than X1950PRO and X1950XT
