Sounds like your PC might be infested with worms.... Download Avast free or AVG free (but not both), install and do a full system virus scan.... Also, you need to check how much free space you got on that small drive. Less than 10GB is not good. Other thing to check is how large your disk cache is. Probably improve matters if it was fixed to 2048MB.

Good luck.

I already have avast.

And i was suspicious of worms after what happened last night. my computer crashed and i got this thing come up when i rebooted.

"CHDSK , checking file system is NTSF. one of your disks needs to be checked for inconsistenc. You may cancel the disk check". (but i couldnt cancel it cause my freaking keyboad wouldnt work in it and i worked after it was done). In the 2 years that i've had my computer that has never happened except twice in the last week. And the first time it happened, it deleted all my MSN accounts.

And disk cache is in the BIOS, correct? and is it safe to change that?

Also would upgrading my processor help. And i was cleaning the fan earlier and now it wont screw back in lol.

Sounds to me like you have serious Malware issues. If you already have Avast uninstall and try AVG Free see if it picks up anything that Avast missed. If AVG cant find anything next time it happens check the task manager to see what process is draining your resources. If the process name is unfamiliar google it and see what shows up (dont worry if its svchost.exe its a windows process usually there are some virus versions). If you still have issues after that you the next step is reinstalling XP. If after that nothing changes you might have to reformat your drive.

I also dont think that its hardware related.

Good luck.

Ok, to change the disk cache size right click on MyComputer->Properties->Advanced->Performance->Advanced. Then at the bottom in the Virtual Memory section, click on Change. Select 'Custom Size' and set both 'Intial Size' and 'maximum Size' to 2048. If you are starting to get error messages when starting up Windows then it could be a few things happening:

1) You have got worms

To Fix: Run full system scan. Do this in Safe Mode.

2) Windows system files might be damaged

To Fix: You need to do a 'Repair Install' of Windows

3) You hard drive formatting may be damaged

To Fix: You need to do a full hard drive reformat and re-install everything.

4) Your hard drive surface or electronics may be damaged

To Fix: You will need to replace the drive and re-install everything.

Of course the last two steps are the last resort. Try the other options first.

I am also curious as to what fan you cannnot re-attach.

Good luck

Reboot. Then just after you see the first lines of text appearing on the screen, start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. Press the key for about half a scond. Then let it go for the next half second. Keep this up until you get the Windows startup menu. Here you will see a list of startup options. Select 'Safe Mode' and press return. Windows will now boot into Safe Mode. this is a special operating mode where all non-essential functions are switched off and hopefully any worms too. Run your Anti Virus full system scan. Once it finishes, reboot normally and see if you still get problems.

Good luck
