Specs:

8800GTX, 4gigs ram, AMD Athlon X2 64 Dual Core 5200+ 2.60Ghz, 500Watt psu.

I'm running Crysis on High settings and I am getting about 20-25 fps, and when it gets intense 15 fps. What needs to be changed? I'm looking at my psu and am thinking that's my problem, but I"m not sure buying a new one will have a sudden performance increase. Thanks.

You CPU is bottlenecking you the most. But otherwise people with 3-way SLI get 30-35 fps in crysis maxed out, so you shouldn't be surprised. Especially when you hit the ice level, I just finished the demo and OMG when I get to the ship part boy is it laggy. But I turn Post-Processing to low (the stuff that makes it blurr when you turn really fast). Most useless feature ever, just makes my eyes hurt.

Here's everything I know:

NVIDIA Control Panel > manage 3D settings > Vertical Sync - Force On / Triple Buffering - On / Threaded Optimization - On / Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration - Single display performance mode

from post by JAGuarXxX in Crysis forum.

What cpu do you suggest for me to get?

i don't know how much of a performance boost that'll give you tho. I'd say your system is fine, and crysis is just brutal. did you download the patch?

Your CPU is fine and most certainly not a bottleneck. Just wondering, at what res are you playing at?

Dude come on Crysis is intense. I have a quad core and it is really chugging on the snow part. His specs are good, but his AMD Dual core is the obvious weak link. If he could, go get the phenom 9600. You might see a boost, but Crysis then again is a killer app. I'm running @ 1680x1050 everything is very high, except I turn down the post processing to low (I hate that blurry feeling). I mean his CPU is fine, but llived, eventually you'll need to go higher.

You system is amazing, and don't be down on Crysis people with 3-way SLI have 30-35 fps. I don't think we will be able to truly max it out at decent fps for another year. BTW, I get 25-30FPS. Maybe because I have quad core.

Why are people saying your CPU is a bottleneck, its fine, ill tell you the problem, CRYSIS! Don't even bother buying a quad core just to get slightly better performance in crysis. its just not worth it because no matter what you have you cant help but feel disappointed in how it runs.

It might be chugging for you, but you have to take the settings into account. He's not running at 1680x1050 or very high, but rather at 1400x900 and only high settings. I am yet to test those settings with my rig, but I'm pretty sure it should at least be playable. I'll report back when I test it myself.

He's not running an Intel Core 2 Quad processor clocked at speeds in excess of 3.0GHz like most review sites do either, and at lower resolutions, the lack of CPU power can come into play much more easily.

Your rig is fine right now, don't do a thing. Crysis is a mean game, but don't dump money into your rig just to play one game better right now. Wait for a few more new AMD chips to come out - maybe pick up a Tri-Core or Quad-core Phenom chip right before summertime starts.

Honestly, think about it - aside from Crysis, what games give your rig serious trouble?

I assume nothing. I'm dreaming that all companies are paying for Crysis because they got alot of money becausae ppl wanted to upgrade like insanes.

I'm kind of like you far as sc goes because I have this

amd athlon dual proccessor 3800+ 2.0 500 watt power supply 2 gigs of ram running xp 8600gt xxx 256mb with rez at 1024x768 and with this I'm not sure what the FPS is on it but everything is on low except for like 2 things and they are on high.

In skirmish I'm fine but when I goto play a mission it starts to slow down. Anaywya my problem is probable the graphic card but I'm not sure what else I can do to make the pc run this game better.
