I just had HL2E1 installed. When I make a new game, the level starts loading but maybe 2/3 of the way through, it crashes. It's weird, cuz my screen shuts down and the monitor acts as though my PC is off (the light on the power button blinks) but I can hear my PC running. So I had to shut it down. How do I fix this? I know my PC can run it. Please help.
I tried it again, got passed the loading screen, but it sound-looped and crashed after the purple vortigaunts start surrounding Gman. I got an error message saying "internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice::()". What do I do?

I think HL2 Ep1 is just buggy. Multiple times during the game I just froze, and had to manually shut down my pc. I'm not really sure what's wrong, but you can try updating your drivers.

Sounds like your video card is over heating. Make sure it's fan is still working. Open your case and check. Take it out of the slot and re insert it as well.

Try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it, it could be a corrupt file. And make sure you have the newest drivers for your video card and the newest version of directx from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

Can it be caused by firewalls or antivirus of some sort?

check the steam forums and see if it anyone else with your particular graphics card is having this problem, the solution could be to update or also rollback your display drivers

I have a nvidia geforce 7600gt, P4 3.4ghz (2 cpus) and 1 gig of ram. Shouldn't that be enough? Especially if i am able to run TF2 and CSS?

it depends on how high a setting you're running on. what you have is good enough to run the game for sure, but certainly not good enough to run on the highest setting (say, 1600x1200, texture on high, hdr & bloom turned on, etc.). you could probably get away with 1024x768 and texture on high with no hdr and bloom, but anything beyond might be problematic. you should fiddle around with the settings and try it again. if it still doesn't work, check back here for more help or check online for solutions. try also defragmenting your hard drive, closing other programs that might be running simultaneously, getting the latest driver for your nvidia card, etc.
